Overview
Overlook mountain has been flown intermittently since the early 1970s. Currently this is a hike in site. The trail is 2.25 miles and a 1400 feet climb.
History
Pilots used to drive up to launch, but since the DEC has purchased the land it has reverted to a wilderness area and access is now only by foot. It now will go several years between visits from pilots.
Geography/Meteorology
The summit is the southern end of a 30 mile long north south ridge, with a large bowl facing south. Excellent thermal lift can be found here.
Clubs/Manager
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation owns the summit and the trail to it. Hang gliding is permitted.
