||Entry: Dune Gooning Blog:
|It's interesting that while dune gooning is done on small slopes, it really isn't something that a beginner should attempt.
This is because it means flying only inches away from catching a tip on the sand and getting cart-wheeled.
This is where I get into disagreements with other pilots.
There are those that have perverted the term "Dune Gooning". Whereas the term was originally meant to describe HG in it's most pure form, i.e. flying on the beach without harness or helmet, and preferably sans shoes or shirt, they have hi-jacked the term to include the use of a harness, a helmet, and even for Christ's sake shoes and shirt!
This is an abomination, saith the Lord.
And so I have been promoting the term "Goon Dooning" to represent the original type of flying, where one, sans shoes, shirt, helmet and harness, grabs the bull by the horns and FLYS the way Otto intended it be done. And I spelled that correctly, flys is what I meant, "flies" refers to obnoxious insects.
You're likely a noobie, you have no business attempting Goon Dooning, although dune gooning might be OK for you, I dunno, being hooked in to the damn thing may be a disadvantage, ya never know, maybe being able to bail out on to the sand might be better than having to follow the damn thing into a cartwheel, I dunno, I don't use a harness when I'm having fun on the beach, I'm too scared of not being able to just bail when things get wrong, which is quite often while doing this sort of thing.|
