The euphoria and additional altitude of the big hill helped renew my commitment to the hills. It was like a short aero tow flight, without the weight of an instructor to shove around! I started going through the tasks until one day...
Eeryone should have that one bad day at the training hills. Just scarey enough to humble you, not hurt! Well my day came doing a speed a speed run. I was gaining confidence flaring, maybe too much. I flared way too early! Of course I went up my memories were:
>>>Don't take back the flare!
>>>Don't do it!.
>>>Oh crap!
>>>Why did I do it?
>>>This is going to hurt...
>>> OOOUUUCCCHHH!!!
Well I learned that lesson the hard way. Test a little just before flaring. My right knee was killing me! The shock wave that went up my back had me limping like the hunch back of Notre Damn. It wasn't good ending to that trip.
Of course my guys that work for me heard about hang gliding, probably way too much. After hearing about that trip, I had many of them suggest that I quit. My boss just shook his head, after his eyes popped out. His second in command asked if I would put him in my will. And my co-worker, Mentor, stopped complaining about my motorcycle. He had a whole other topic to fuss about, and his wife, Fashionista; and I just laughed at him.

I just did one of those flairs too. I felt like I was 30ft. in the air. It was only about five, and I never take back a flair, and it turned out o.k. Flying is all about decisions, and sticking to the plan. Training is going to be the most difficult on your muscles, and you might get some bumps on the way, but the reward at the end is great. Try to keep your training lessons as consistant as you can. YOu will gain trememdously with muscle memory, and less sensory overload. You must commit time to this in the begining. You do this, and you will see your confidence will grow. Stay with it, and don't let anyone talk you out of it. YOu decide what you want to do, don't let others talk you out of something they don't understand. We do... The pilots in this forum do... Questions, rants, worries, answers, friends. Find them here.
