Rehab.....

Rehab full velocity now. The best part is when the therapist locks the shoulder into a fixed plane of rotation, then rotates it back so far you almost piss yourself, never mind act like a little b****. BUT!!! the shoulder is stronger and improving, and I have a lot to be thankful for. PT Master says "Lay off exercise 2 days a week"! Layoff time can be as important as workout time in recovery, but DAMN, is it frustrating!! Glad I restrained myself when the frau decided "since the furniture is all piled up for the carpet cleaner, we'll just go ahead and paint". The shoulder held together through three rooms and a hall/entry. At which point, we surrendered by mutual agreement. After reconstructing the spare room, living room, and bedroom, and bringing the kittens' climbing tree back into the house, we visited family and gave ourselves a break. Looks promising for a return to light duty soon. PT Master says "8 weeks, now we can hurt you without worrying about injuring you!"...... WTF!!! Now starts the long uphill back to decent condition after laying about for two months, which hopefully would coincide nicely with the spring flying season! With approriate judgement of course. Gettin' there.

Sounds as though the timing will be just right.
Painting is good PT and therapeutic for the mind.
Keep us posted on your progress.

AJX just hasn't been the same without you Joel. I can hardly wait for Spring just to listen to your wit in the LZ once again.

The orthopedic surgeon said I'm getting really good range of motion for ten weeks out of surgery, and my next checkup is in two weeks, rather than the 4-week interval he's been using so far. I have been cautiously exceeding the recommended exercises so as not to re-injure the shoulder, but to speed up the strengthening, and still not impede the flexibility. Seems to be working, as he is surprised/pleased with my progress! That makes me happy, too. I hear the sky calling and I have to be really careful not to drive off the freeway craning my neck to get a glimpse of the pilots on Marshall Mountain/Crestline ridge. My frustration has been such that I have not dared to show up at Andy Jackson LZ for fear of starting to drink heavily. I may have to change that for the Toy Drive this weekend. The kids still need toys, and I WILL FLY eventually. I really miss flying and then playing guitar in the LZ with Chris afterward. That's like getting cake and eating it too! I really dug the video one pilot posted with the Pink Floyd "Learning to Fly" music in the background. I sat there with tears in my eyes just soaking it up, then I played it over again. (Sorry I don't recall his name) Thanks, my friend, and thanks to all who have posted encouraging words here. Merry Christmas to all of you. Now how the hell am I going to finance a Sport 2 175............ Joel

The therapist implied I've gotten just about as much range and flexibility as I can reasonably expect, and said "building the strength is the thing for you". So my Bowflex is my new best friend, as long as I don't hurt my self. I think it is reasonable to pursue strength and stamina for the Spring time air. Hopefully the Big O Loop at AJX will be operational soon and I will be able to spend a day polishing up the landings, after an 8-month hiatus. The shoulder had to get fixed, because I was DAMNED if I would give up flying after only 2 years. I could not risk the Workers Comp catching me flying while I was being treated, even though my ego told me I could. Losing the house to pay medical bills wouldn't go over well with the frau. At least I get a chance to jam with my bro Chris while I wait it out. "Music hath charms to sooth the savage pilot who's so air-horny he readily considers anti-social behavior to finance a flying vacation in France", Or something like that......Joel
