Not sure what you mean by "disprove".
"disprove" definition:
| Quote: |
prove to be false; "The physicist disproved his colleagues' theories"
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn |
The Mythbusters will not prove that the source of energy for a treadmill mounted DDFWWT is not coming from the treadmill, because it IS coming from the treadmill.
I would be surprised if the Mythbusters (or anyone else for that matter) even questions the source of power -- it's clearly the treadmill
Why do you ask?

Two questions...
Are you trying to prove this represents perpetual motion?

impressive, I didn't know you took it this far as I lost interest after page 3 of the other threads. I hope I see it on the show. _________________ -Jason

I know what you mean JD. I walked into Rick's office a few weeks ago and said "I'm tired of talking ... let's build one."

We'll let everyone know if they pick it up. Even before the "challenge" video, we were told that the Producers were considering it.

PS: As I recall JD, you were a pretty strong critic of the DDWFTTW concept. Do you mind stating where you stand now? |

I was a strong critic that it could not be done.
It was the two yo yo's with perpetual belt and flaps that proved to me that it could be done. That was the turning point for me. It was plain to see that that contraption would travel fttwdw. A proven theory was all I needed to change my mind, and with no airfoils/props to confuse things it was easy to see.
I congratulate you on your work and hope you see your goal. It will be an interesting show and knowing that it has roots here will make it even better. _________________ -Jason

Hey, that's not just ANY spork, that spork was handmade with a dremel just before filming.

JB,
I'll try this again...
Are you trying to prove this represents perpetual motion?
and...
What is Mythbusters trying to bust?
Just curious... _________________ C R Valley

Hmmm ... "curious", but apparently not *curious enough* to watch the video. This "I don't want to do even the smallest amount of homework" is common among critics.
The Myth to bust is stated clearly in the first 8 seconds of the video, and if we were trying to sell "perpetual motion", we wouldn't laugh in the video that it will run 'until we stop paying our electricity bill".
Now, I know from other forums that you're a critic -- nothing wrong with that. It's just generall accepted that it's best to understand the claims before taking a position on them.
If you've got questions, I'm happy to answer them -- as long as they aren't answered in the first 8 seconds of the OP video. :-)

crvalley,
I'll see if I can explain what was said in about 80 pages in various threads.
It was a myth in history that any vehicle could travel faster than the wind, down wind. In a conventional sail, to go straight downwind, the sail was turned 90 degrees to the wind to catch as much wind as possible. This limits speed to the wind speed minus the friction. Hence could not be done. When sails took on airfoil shapes they could tack at angles and beat the wind, but not straight down wind.
What "they" are trying to prove (and have) is that it can be done. Using a treadmill and no wind is the same as a stationary surface (be it land or water) and a wind. (agreed here?)
If you can't see it various videos then the only side of the debate your on is the videos are hoaxes. This was the side of the fence I was on until it was proven in theory in one of the various other threads. _________________ -Jason

In that mode, I'll answer your questions.

No, and where from our words would you get such silly questions?

Asked and answered. Replay the first 8 seconds as many times as you need.

Just so this forum follows my tone, Chris Valley sarcastically posted the following regarding our video on another forum:
and my response:
| Quote: |
OMG -- that's freakin' brilliant. I *wish* it was our team … we don't stand a chance now.
Ok, so mark Crvalley down as one who thinks we're full of crap.
One of the most interested things about this entire Oz forum experience is that not a single pilot skeptic has asked to see the device in person, nor asked for plans, nor asked for me to send them mine.
We almost put a section in the video regarding this -- people hold onto their "perpetual motion" beliefs so strongly that even in the face of "I'll send you one in a small box and you can play with it yourself" they still aren't interested in the truth.
JB |
As stated and demonstrated endlessly on this forum and others, I have no issue with critics of the device -- just don't use strawman arguments.

I've only been a spectator in all of this. It's been really interesting to watch and your video is great. I applaud your follow through and I hope the Mythbusters pick this up. Good work fellas!
