On a recent flight, coming in for a landing, just before transitioning my visor pops down. Doesnt affect the landing but sure as hell surprised me. A fellow pilot had the same problem before and kept tightening the screws till he cracked the visor. to fix the problem just get a Loctite Thread Locker (blue stuff/removable) and that will keep the bolt locked tight, but still removable so you can still clean it out if need be.

Maybe, but i think those threads are plastic, correct? If so i dont think theyre made for all that. Just regular ol bolts and nuts.

Brilliant! My visor has been getting slammed down a lot lately during high Gs or high speeds. I've placed Teflon washers under the thumb screws of my Charly No Limit but ever time I raise the visor the damned things back off just a little bit. I am going straight over to HD to buy myself a tube. Big Thanks! thumbsup

Yeah. I currently have them all wrapped with yellow duct tape Crying or Very sad Steve P told me they know about the problem and it only exists On the 12 mil battens. Lame.

Any recomendations?

A little bit of Teflon plumber's tape should work a treat.

LOL, that what i used on mine. actually if you look closely at the helmet, it has had a major facelift since i got it new last year. with most charly helmets, the rubber edge lining was coming off, the screws were getting rusty (sweat, yuk) the inner pads' adhesive was wearing off, the plastic thing that sits between the screw and visor was cracked, and the whole thing was scratched up. So i did a whole helmet makeover during the holidays. Matte black paint, super glued the rubber lining. Reapplied fresh adhesive for the pads, replaced the screw with a metal and nylon washer, and a fresh bolt. It holds really well with the loctite.

LOL right back at ya! I bought Tom Benton's Charly No Limit and placed it in the fix-it pile after 600 hours. It needs the edge trim replaced and the pads re-glued as well.

I have been thinking about replacing the pads with Zotefoam Plastizote LD-45 which is used in sporting gear and prosthetics. We use it for seat pads on recumbent racing bicycles. It's very durable but does not breath and needs channels cut for sweat.

Maybe it's time for a Fix-up Your Helmet thread? I'll let you start it. surrender

Dude, i really wished that i took pictures when i was doing the repairs. But i was visiting my parents in Florida during the time and didnt have my camera with me. Speaking of the foam, i actually wanted to replace my foam with something else, i have and old mattress topping that i could cut up but thought it wouldnt breathe as well as the foam already put in. Whats funny is that during the holidays, my GF had bought me one of those fancy Icaro 4Fight helmets. Im not going to use it till i get a topless so i can look really ACP

I know that feeling about wishing I'd photographed some process.

BTW - you can get a nice replacement kit from WW for the No Limit visor screw & ratchet. It's $12.75 for a pair of sets. Part # 70J-1221. $12.75 gives you two of each part. I accidentally bought two sets.

Oh - I found it by accident while Googling one day! ahh

I had the same problem with my No LImit helmet. My right hand retaining bolt just popped off one flight. I also now have used locktight on the threads and no more problem.

Cool, Robert!
BTW - the thumb screws that came with my 4-year old helmet had much shorter threads and the threads on my new No Limit. Anyone who has the screws popping out may want to spend the $12.50 on a set of the new ones.
Cheers, Jono

I recommend if you can't handle the flip tips on a T2, then you should go back to the flip tips on a Sport 2...you're progressing too fast in the world of flip tips... Razz

There is a product called Vibra-Tite Formula 3 made by ND Industries (248) 362-1209 if you can't find a distributor. It is a liquid that you coat a male thread with and let it dry before assembling. It just adds some friction so the screws or bolts don't turn as easily and will last a long time. The more of it you use the harder it is to turn the screw. This would be a good fix for your flip tips

I have a recumbent bicycle racing buddy who's a product manager at ND. I just left him a VM. This could solve a lot of issues. Way to go. mosh
