Also to APs' original question.......Yes I have. I was flying along in strong thermic conditions when all of a sudden. My helmet , ass, and heels where one with the keel. My initial thought was. That wasn't good _________________ The sky is no longer the limit! Only our imaginations will be our limit!
Hi hgflyer
I believe we all have many unpleasant situations, especially during learning period. Personally I start my training on UP C2, finished it and fly it 4 years after.
Kid didn't know what is 100kg. Just take and carry it .
Maybe you can give us something that really take a sh*t out of you
I like where you are going with this skyordie.
Ok, self trainning incident number 1.
Once I realized I had to fly. I purchased a brand new Dream 165 (without harness or helmet). I couldn't get enough of my glider once I got it home. I set it up in my front yard, my backyard. And would just stare at my new glider with awe, and all of the possibillitys. Looking at it wasn't good enough. I swear the wing kept yelling at me to fly her . Well enough was enough. I couldn't take the amount of taunting that damn glider was throwing at me. The taunts became whispers in my head. (Glider whispering) Cmon Rich let's fly, Cmon Rich let's fly etc......
No harness or helmet, I coudln't wait any longer to try to schedule a lesson. I had to fly
I remembered a small hill behind my old elementary school.
I figured I could build my own harness out of rope and old belts
To make a long story short. I flew for the first time on my own. It was amazing.....................Until my homemade harness broke I landed on my ass so hard and slid across the ground so far. It made me realize I needed professional help (NOT).
What I really convinced myself of, Was........I need to get me a harness
Which leads to hgflyer- self teaching incident number 2 _________________ The sky is no longer the limit! Only our imaginations will be our limit!

I was flying in Spain heading for a gaggle of birds circling in a valley deep in the Pyrenees (see picture, its a beautiful part of the world ). The birds were not quite as high as the mountains and were more lee to the far side of the valley. I new it was a gamble but after trying to get away from the other side of the valley which was mostly in shade I got impatient and headed on a longgg glide to the gaggle. As I got closer I could see the birds were intermitantly doing huge climbs only to be sinking heavily 10 seconds after. Before I made it to the birds I headed back downwind but not after getting what Hgflyer described above. At one point I was laying hard up against the keel head to toe with the base bar ripped out of my hands and looking a long way away. I was so happy to have it back in my hands again. Rotor is a scary beast.
See, i don't like that.I don't want any of that. In the short time that i have been flying, i have already experienced lee side rotor, and me no likie! I know that to be in this sport,it IS to be expected, and overcome. And i will learn everything i can to avoid or be aware of the air that waits to grab you and make you wish you were not flying but walking,oh no real particular place, but just walking... ON THE GROUND... _________________ Always a student.

Ok day,
Getting behind and below the the backside of any ridge can get funky without a bail out lz.
Going over the falls while snooping to thermal, is a price to pay sometimes. To be able to hook the big FATTY.
Now get back in there and ATTACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just kidding. I know what you mean and how you might feel at this time. Anytime we experience something new in our flying experience that was somewhat unexpected. It can be a little nerve tickling. Anytime you fly mountain thermals mid day. You can expect a bit of rock and roll.
p.s. Don't confuse backside rotor junk with trashy front of the ridge thermal funk. If I ever put myself in rotor junk. It would be my fault if I accidently let loose the junk in my trunk. _________________ The sky is no longer the limit! Only our imaginations will be our limit!
