Just wanted to say thanks to folks on this website. I searched for months looking for a way to put a rack on top of my truck cab, until I ran into this site. Not a hang glider but worked great for the canoe.
Thanks again for the information

You might want a couple of extra lines on there. There is a very realistic possibility that the suction cups will all come unstuck at some point while you're driving, and since they're on the roof rather than on the hood, you can't see if they're popping off one by one. I think the general approach is good, but make sure that if all of the cups are released, that you can grab a hold of the bow of the canoe and shake it back and forth hard without it flying off. Maybe just a strap that goes once around the boat then in through the doors and is snugged up inside the cab.

I see what you are saying. I got the suction cups so I would not need to run a line through the car as is done with foam blocks. The hitch provides enough stability along with the two front lines that it cannot slide more than a few inches side to side with the cups loose. It's primary purpose is to protect the car. I just made a 250mile interstate trip with it without a hitch and am lucky around the house I don't travel more than 10 miles to use the canoe. The rope around the 2x4 is there to prevent it from moving in the event they do all come loose.
The only concern I have moving forward is driving in the rain and below freezing temperatures.
