That brought a big old smile to my face. Trying to insult me by calling me a patriot is like trying to put out a fire with gasoline.
Good luck. Let me know how it works out for you. _________________ I will never be skilled or experienced enough at this activity that I can't get killed doing it. |

But is was not an insult, just an observation. Patriotism is neither a virtue or a vice, just a societal mechanism. Lobido understood my point.

That is BS Tom, when you associate a word with the term "disease" we can read between the lines. If you wanted a neutral statement you would have chosen a better word.
I may not be "born again" but I wasn't ...born yesterday.

I do fit your profile approximately, and find it generally complimentary.
I am socially liberal. I believe in live and let live. I don't care if gays marry.
I rather tax dollars spent on an ounce of prevention, than a pound of cure, treatment vs prison.
I share Einstein's belief in a non personal god.
I find patriotism in American society at large, to independent to the principles of the enlightenment that Franklin, Jefferson, Adams, et al., sought to base the republic on.
I didn't invent the term "memetic disease", but I did choose it, since it accurately conveys my view of patriotism. Lobido was able to grasp it. If you are not familiar with the definition of a meme, you may wish to read the memetics link that was posted. _________________ Real freedom lies in wildness, not in civilization.

I am familiar with both the definition and the "tone". it was used.
You seemed to backtrack a bit when Dave confronted you.
Its not my concern so much on what you or anyone wants to believe as long as it doesn't affect me on mine. Jefferson didn't write about government run health care the last time I inquired. I believe in minimum government intervention run by volunteers who go back to work when their terms are through. I don't even want government workers working the toll booths! In MA a tool booth worker gets 65K a year and full retirement after 55 and twenty years. I am glad I don't live there!
I care less what people want to do in their bedroom. But I don't want to pay for it either, nor textbooks that write about it. There are threads that connect all of us on some points and miss on many others.

I think everyone everywhere deserves equal protection and equal opportunity under the law regardless of any factor. How could that be a bad thing? _________________ Carpool to local flying sites from Atlanta:

Its not a bad thing at all. On the other hand we shouldn't punish people who make the most of their opportunities to support those that don't.

I agree with you there. People have lost a sense of personal accountability. Hell, we have to put warnings on coffee cups so everyone knows the coffee is hot
I thought you were speaking about the tax implications of allowing a larger portion of the populace to legally marry who they want to. Even though it doesn't affect me, I think in 10 years people will be blown away by the fact that a president tried to write discrimination into the constitution. _________________ Carpool to local flying sites from Atlanta:
