I've been playing with Inkscape (Thanks to SG and whoever else mentioned it) in one of the many T-shirt threads.
I gabed a picture of our bird, and proceded to "create" a vector graphic from it
Not bad for a hack and a couple hours of work........really, I'm working lol!

I think you should have used the photo of Imaposer and I in our bird "costumes" from the post your mug thread.

That’s because it is utterly impossible to work when all you can think about is
Is the ridge on?
Who showed up.?
Should I have risked unemployment to get there?
Oh man, is it spring yet.

| Hmm, at first glance I read "Go ahead, Wank it!". I think it will go over well in the UK.

SWEET!
Those graphics rock. Maybe we could put them in a folder in the photo album instead of scattered throughout the forums.

I'm disappointed with this kind of program because the "intro" material is worded as if you know all the computer graphic vocabulary. I'm SEEING Chassan doing great things with it, but I go to their web site and I go , Duhhh?
They could use somebody to put all their "techno speak" into typical human (with perhaps a little artistic knowledge and ability) language.
So, that being said, if a person downloads the program can they interpret the user interface so as to be able to do something with it? It really does look like fun.
(note: I'm usually pretty good at figuring programs out without much reference to the help menus)

The official documentation for inkscape is lacking content. However like with all graphic programs I have looked at, there are 1000's of "tutorials" out there to help you learn the basics.
Google "inkscape tutorials" look around and give some a try. Some are more "beginner friendly" than others, but most already assume you have some understanding.
Try this tutorial to "paint a face". http://howto.nicubunu.ro/inkscape_face_draw/
My first one was my daughter's picture. Sadly I made her look like she was 60 years old and suffered a stroke! The pic I tried to copy was in low light and details didn't "stick" out.
Pick an easy face. Lobido's pic was a good choice. There was high contrast, and defined features. It was easy to pick the lines I wanted.
These programs are not easy to learn by any means. They can take alot of work to get a crappy picture to start with, but they will get easier the more you use them.
