I know that Saturday was a big day for of LMFP pilots, and a lot of people got a lot of airtime. So, how about anyone who flew this weekend letting us know how much airtime you got? It'd be neat to come up with a sum total.
I'd like to say that I contributed to the total, but between waiting for the fog to lift and the time I spent on the training hill reclearing, by the time I got up to the mountain launch, the wind had picked up too much for me to fly. I did learn a bunch hanging around the launch and helping wire crew.
This weekend was what we've all been waiting for all season. A 4 hour wonderwind/glassoff whatever you call it. The air on Saturday evening was amazing, toward the end of the evening especially it was absolutely buttery smooth, and yet you just couldn't come down.
Crystal clear air allowed us to see dozens of miles, some guys went to "The Point" and back, a few guys went over to Cloudland Canyon State Park, and the rest of us just boated around grinning from ear to ear.
I got my first taste of flying in really congested airspace, plus I got to fly with a few other relative newbs, which was cool because I knew they were as thrilled as I was. And to top it all off, we all landed and had a great party with the company of all the people that have connected through this web site.
If I didn't know better I'd say that SG should come to one of these parties.
My airtime: 2.5 hours
Highest altitude: 1050' over launch
I already posted this video somewhere else, but it is from Saturday.
I had my longest flight yet: 4h15min.
Went to the point and back early on then ventured close to Cloudland later on, but had fun with the crowd over launch.
I think I maxed out around 1300' over
One hour, twenty minutes. Could have stayed up as long as I wanted, was up over a mile high! Excellent day. Most traffic I have ever flown in, managed to fly next to Doc without incident, or rather, he flew next to me and I managed not to screw it up. _________________ I keep cuttin' it and cuttin' it, but it's still too short.

Matt should send him a first class ticket, let him stay in the best condo and provide a free topless for all the free publicity he's been getting on this site.
I would be interested in a graph of the student population from LMFP over the past 36 months to see if there was a measurable up tick in 2007.
There was, Matt even said so on the OzReport. Jan-through spring and possibly beyond was their best ever if I remember correctly. For a while this year, when you googled "hang glide atlanta", my blog here about my experience learning to fly was one of the top two or three hits. This site has done a lot for LMFP!

I wonder if there really has been an "hg.org effect" ? Would be difficult to correlate. _________________

It would be difficult to correlate as it could just be an unrelated upswing in business. It could just as easily reverse next year.
I know that in our case we actually found LO and decided to train before finding this site. Of course a lot of people may actually check it out online first and in the case of those I would think that HG.org has definitely helped.
Of course over the years I’ve also seen a lot of businesses hurt by internet forums as well. There’s an old saying in business… something about one pissed off customer doing more damage than ten happy customers can undo… can’t remember how it goes at the moment. Point is I’ve seen it happen quite a few times where someone feels slighted in some small way and takes every opportunity to talk down the guilty party. They usually end up being the most vocal. Many times after doing enough checking, I’ve found that the person is pissed about some simple thing and is just a complainer with a grudge by nature. But the casual reader may never look into the background enough to figure this out and the damage is done over and over again. Forums can be a very dangerous place to promote a business.
I think that anything negative posted about a flight park would hurt the whole sport, not just the flight park.
So I'm glad that we have ADMIN CAT to keep us from getting too mean.
The new admin dog is even meaner. Fortunately, admin cat has not needed to show his face for a long time. _________________
