Hi there,
I need to recover my round base bar with grippy tape. Just wondering what is the best.
I saw someone on youtube once with luminous orange stuff, looked really thick. Any ideas what that stuff is called??
Any suggestions will be most welcome.
thanks

On one of my gliders, I have sections of old bicycle inner tubes that I slid over the bar.

i prefer keeping my base tube stream lined, so i use grippy gloves, when u get up high and it gets rather cold, you will be glad you have them, they make neoprene Kyacking gloves, they grip well, not to hot when it is hot and keep your hands warm when at higher altitudes. just a sugestion thumbsup

You can use heat shrink tubing for bar wrap. It gives you a better grip while still being tight and aerodynamic on the bar.

I'm with Cal. I've tried a bunch of gloves and these are my favorites by a long shot....

I do use gloves also, seal skinz, though these do look good also.

I need something also on the bar, plain aluminium is too slippy even for the grippiest gloves.
Have found some awesome tape,

will try it and see how it goes.....
thanks everyone for their suggestions.

Definitely not arguing with you here... but just so you know, the Box Handler gloves from IronClad are quite grippy enough to hold onto my Aluminum slipstream base bar with the lightest of touch and still have really good traction. After finding these gloves, I ripped the bicycle handlebar tape right off my base bar and threw it away.

Yeah, you can imagine my frustration when I found my first pair chewed up and scattered all over launch. There was a big bloodhound hanging around who was thereafter dubbed "Bad Dog".

After that I bought a pair and got another pair for my birthday. Smile

I did this once, it was a terrible mistake (in my case).

In my case, I flew with the hockey tape one day, everything was fine. Then I stored the glider in the garage (very hot inside garage) and the glue oozed through the cloth tape. The next time I flew, the goo warmed up under my hands and stuck my hands to the bar HARD. I had to keep pulling my hands off and moving them throughout the flight in order to keep them from getting stuck. When I landed my palms were bright red and completely raw. No Bueno.

an alternative to tape: at your local home emporium hardware type store, you can find clear plastic tubing in assorted sizes. (tubing is measured in inside diameter) by soaking tubing in HOT water, it will swell some, allowing it to be pulled over your base tube. when it cools, it returns to its normal diameter. this will work on normal round type tubes WITHOUT jam cleats.

I use tennis racket tape. Soft, warm and comfy. Cheap too!
