Hopefully it gets delegated to the backyard and never launched. _________________ Mountains always have the right of way.

Nah, you're wrong. Zoom in on the placard photo and you''ll see it was test flown in '75. You know, the year Wheel of Fortune premiered. _________________ Mountains always have the right of way.

Ok, I looked at the placard blow up again, and it's an 81 vintage. The 8 is just a tad stylized.
I wonder how many of these old gliders are hanging out in garages to be discovered - like stories you hear of garages being cleaned out and dynamite or WW2 grenades being discovered. _________________ Mountains always have the right of way.

There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. … Clearly, it is this second part, the missing, which presents the difficulties. ~~~Douglas Adams |

Hell at least get those wheels. They are tough to find as the old ones fit over the
big tandem base tubes too!
Weird that last time I went to a sale this lady was selling the same thing. I told her the bad news about the wing and paid $20 for the wheels. $20! what a steal..

Not all old gliders are bad. I airtow a 1983 Wills Wing Harrier II 177. This is a sweet very light handling glider. I've owned this glider since 1985 and enjoy the light pressure except, it doesn't let you know when it's ready to land.
Now! The saber is an old flat batten glider and even thought I've owned and flown a Zodiac I'd pass also.
Might be fun on a training hill! |

I flew quite a few different gliders from that era, some flew better than others, I would have no problem flying the FD Sabre from a mountain. I would however do a complete inspection and maybe replace the two side wires.
It would also make a pretty good trainer for some new student. _________________ U.S.H.G.A. # 20275 |

| It has luff lines. This is basically Flight Designs version of the Will Wing Raven, which also had non-shaped battens. It would be a sweet beach glider for the dune-gooners. |
