Aside from a little cross controlling, poor hand position for my flair and a late/weak flair, I also left the VG on 3/4 for this landing somewhere in Delaware. It turned out fine, but not happy with the number of things I didn't do well for this approach and landing. Really fun day though.

I land with my VG on all the time. Although 3/4 seems a bit extreme. I think it makes the kite flare better because it moves the control frame back.

I have been landing with anywhere from 0-1/3 VG. Didn't mean to leave it at 3/4 though.

Good approach. I totally convinced the U2s have a auto land button on them.

still a great landing thumbsup
Usually land with about a third but have done 3/4-full on accident a few times. No probs, just a longer glide than expected. Did come in with a fast, diving 180 onto final once and she got a lil squirrely on me. "woah, what was that".. Eased off, straightened out and came in fine. " looked over and full vg.. ahh.. crazy
p.s. that u2 is mosh

Looks like a decent landing to me! thumbsup
What's the line going down/up your right DT to/from your harness?

Thanks. I did one of those slipping turns into my final once and FELL out of the sky with a LOT of speed, luckily no PIO, or I would have had problems.

Love the U2.

they really do, they seem to self level in ground effect,

Lostgriz, i have forgotten to take my vg off and landed with it full on, the problem with this is that the glider glides much further than expected, if you know it's on and you compensate no problem, if you don't big problem, the glider will also come in more level, but if you do get one wing lifted by a thermal or turbulence good luck getting it level if it is flare time thumbsup

the more VG the longer the glider the snappier the flare.

it is nice to know when you do have your VG on more than 1/2 so yes you can somewhat prepare for the long glide. when u do not know its on it is like you are going downwind. Makes you focus. Wink

I can't wait for mine. it should be a couple of more weeks. drool

It's great being able to see these types of situations and discussions before I move to my U2 in a few weeks (it's on the way!!)
I'm glad to see you land safely, I was just content with the next field about 20 minutes later and about a mile further Mr. Green
Great aggressive flying that day, Matt!! You were dogging for better lift anywhere and everywhere!! I just kept an eye on you and was gonna beeline your way if you found some really good lift! (yes pimp your thermal if you will)
I encourage any pilot even thinking about XC to try to attend a comp this season or next, this weekend-style Highland Challenge has been a great first competitive setting for me to push myself and my flying skills, awesome event all around and GREAT flight park at Highland Aerosports!!!

Easy there Alex, you were 0.745645 mi. further than me. BTW, did you make it to goal on Saturday, or was it just me? Laughing Seriously though, it was fun flying with you again. Hopefully our last weekend of the Highland Challenge will be as good as the rest and you will log some miles with the new U2.

I have to second Alex's comments on participating in a comp or team challenge event. I have had a blast this year. I just pased my 1 year anniversary of getting my hang 2 and I have been lucky to log 17 days of competative XC flying in the last 3 months. For me, XC is what I really wanted most in hang gliding. Aside from being a great learning opportunity, I have met a bunch of great people in the flying community and had a ton of fun. mosh

I believe you were the only Sport class pilot to goal Saturday, I never left the field Embarassed
But hey, any flight where I'm thermalling above the open guys in their toplesses, and reaching just a 'little' further than the next guy, all while on my
falcon ahh is an awesome day in my log. But I'm still no where near where I want to be in my flying, I hope to keep running in these events as I work to get there!

None of us are where we want to be, but these events are a huge learning opportunity and a lot of fun. Congrats again on winning the day with your Falcon, nice flying. thumbsup
