I'm Ernie Camacho, the score-keeper for the 2012 King Meet.
I'll try and post daily results and flight reports here during the week. But, I'm also posting to SonomaWings.com's bulletin board so you might want to check both places:
SonomaWings BB: http://sonomawingsbb.yuku.com/topic/4497/King-Diary-2012
I'm depending on pilots' stories so let's hope they're talkative.
Ernie

Day 1 task:
---------------
Thunderstorms are in the forecast. Two routes were called, 3 and 4, the first time two have been called. These two are into the desert and away from the T-storms. You can call the route you want to take when you are in the air.
The launch window was opened at 12:30. |

Flytrace
-----------
Blaine Perkins set up a page for the King Meet on the Flytrace website. On their map you can follow those pilots who are carrying a Spot location transmitter. Their Spot updates their position so that you can follow them.
Today's task, route 3 or 4, is on the map.
Here is the Flytrace page for the King Meet:
http://www.flytrace.com/tracker/map.aspx?group=23
I found that Internet Explorer 8 does not display the page properly. I tried Firefox and that works. |

Day 1 map pins
----------------------------
Here is Google Earth showing the landing pins for Day 1.
Both routes 3 and 4 were called. Most pilots took route 3. Not many went far. The exception was Bill Soderquist, who made it as far as he could, landing at West Yellowstone just shy of the park boundary.
The map is big and I don't want to embed it here where it'll make the formatting weird. Instead, I'll point you to the photo gallery:

I'm still working on the day's scoring totals. I'll have them up shortly. |

Day 4
----------------------
Good conditions today. All routes are open, a very rare task call (only done once before). |

Day 5
--------------------
As I stated at the top of this thread, pop over to the Sonoma Wings BB to see if there is info not posted here. There are posts there.
Day 5, Friday, was cancelled. Day 6 was forecast 70 percent chance of rain. half of the pilots went home.
Saturday started out promising, sort-of. We're waiting until noon to see if the day will be a comp. day.
And, sorry about no stories. There are some interesting ones, but I don't know the details. A couple of pilots have been posting to Facebook. We'll all have to wait for them to tell their stories here later. |

No issues with fires here around King Mtn. All fireswere put out quickly and were not located up wind from us. The only issue at all was the weather, not typical, but thats standards these days it would appear. _________________ Alan Paylor

| The comp is over. Bill Soderquist won, of course. Check the photo page for results. |
