First off I have to say I love PC games, been playing them for over 20 years but lately the developers are screwing things up.
Well yesterday I finally bought "The Witcher2"(New & improved version) PC game after hearing about the great graphics.
No wonder people get the shits with PC games, I tell you if console games could match PC's for graphics quality after yesterday I would buy one in a heartbeat.
Well Robert "What happened?"
I installed the game off the DVD then up popped a dialogue box saying you need to download a patch. OK no problem I hit the download button.....to find out it is a 10.55 gig patch...that is right Ten Thousand, five hundred and fifty five megabytes.
OK 12 hours later (slow download) the download finishes and the game finally starts to unpack the 10.55 gig and installs the patch.....I double click the game icon, the game starts and up pops another dialogue box "Do you want to download patch 3.1?"
OK I hit yes and luckily it is only a 6 meg file, quick download.
I restart the game and WTF another message "Do you want to download patch 3.2?"
I hit yes, this time it is a 60 meg download.
Come on are PC game developers purposely trying to force people onto consoles?
Well all I did last night was play the intro cinematics and I have to say the best footage I have ever seen. Virtually looks like a blockbuster movie. Only done a basic tutorial and actual game play looks good but too cartoonish for me, I prefer realism.
I won't tell you about the bummer with Diablo III single player only being able to be played through the internet.
OK I feel better now. _________________ Sonic 165

Similar experience here. Gaming for a three decades, love the new hardware that's up to the task without having to overclock (though I still do). But massive patches right after a title is released? They should have waited until it cleared QA.
I've been playing Skyrim for the last few months and at one point had to restart because of a bug that roadblocked my progress. It's taken a month to get back to the same level! So I feel your pain.
The good news is I flew for two hours yesterday and another two hours today in challenging thermal conditions. Just thought I'd toss a little flying stuff in to keep it topical. _________________ "If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space." - Anonymous |

I loved Skyrim, spent many happy hours scouring the countryside having fun.
I wish I would have read a few more review of Witcher2. The controls are for control freaks. It might work if I wanted to spend the first day just memorizing what cntrl, alt, Q, etc etc etc activate.
Even the tutorial had me rage quitting, waiting for the icon to appear before I could do this or that, remembering what spell to cast, when to parry, when to roll, when to run, when to hard hit etc etc etc.
Well I got about 20 minutes into the actual game and life's too short to persevere with this game. It looks pretty but unless you enjoy pushing this button for that, that button for this, working out which spell does what, watching many cut scenes, deciding this, deciding that, this game is not for you, or it seems me. What a waste.
I want another game like Skyrim or Fallout, or even Half-life. My enjoyment comes from exploring in easy mode with that much power every fight is an easy win. I know where is the challenge in that. I have enough challenges in my life without carrying them over into my leisure time.
Time to delete this game and regain my 18.2 gig back.
Back to flying, good work with your flying FPeel, I might....might get a flight tomorrow. _________________ Sonic 165

That's why I stick to Simulators and First Person shooters. I don't have to deal with all that crap in the fantasy games. The fantasy games are way over done and over rated and are nonsense to try and figure out and yes they are always taking you to some shortcuts for updates that take 3 years to download lol.
I have just about any simulator you could want and about every first person shooter too but I guess that's just a military thing.

I just had this flashback of flying a blue plane on the deck inverted outrunning the bad guys after a mission.
And the turn-quick-and-the-hit-is-brutal move in...hmmm...NHL94 maybe?
Crap.

if I'm not flying, at work or with the GF, I'm playing some good old Video games. PC shooters were my thing, but since you have to upgrade your hardware every year in order to play the latest games it isn't worth it to me. now i just get on the xbox to play. _________________ WW F1 170 (sold)
