McClure launch is privately owned. The L.Z. is owned by MID (Merced irrigation District). _________________ Always a student.

Perhaps the better question - are there any HG sites threatened by potential State Park closures?
Diablo is on State Park land; so is St Helena, but neither is on the hit list. I heard that a Sonoma coastal site may be affected.

I recall going to the local park in the late 80's and finding it closed. I don't think it is a ploy- it is a real possible consequence. If there is no gas, the car doesn't go. |

State parks in Calif. are generally antagonistic to Hangs...
f*** 'em, give 'em a dollar, breakfast was my idea.
(That having been said, I use them a lot for mountain biking and bodysurfing) |

After years of dealing with Park staff, and sharing stories with other Park HG adminstrators, I'm convinced it all depends on the attitudes of the staff themselves. If they like you and (most importantly) see their job as trying to be helpful, it's not too bad.
The beauty of the State Parks is that some developer can't come in and buy up your favorite launch or LZ. Sure, there are beauracratic jungles to navigate, but the land will always be there.

California is essentially a failed state, like Greece. Ideas (and who you vote into power) have consequences. They vote for Jerry Brown and then are shocked when he runs out of other people's money. No wonder businesses are leaving the state. _________________ H4

California is just one of many states grappling with budget woes. Is this a political thread or a HG thread? I'm happy to discuss how Parks and HG interact, but have no interest in political bashing.

A bit like blaming the firefighter for the presence of a fire. An examination of the California budget crisis will reveal that it pre-dates Jerry Brown substantially. The house was already on fire when he arrived on the scene. There might be a reasoned argument to be made about his effectiveness as governor- but it would need to be more substantial than the Greece comparison. California is not essentially Greece- economically, or otherwise. California is an industrial and agricultural powerhouse that feeds much of the world, and is not on the verge of being cast out of the Union.
Try again.

Can I change my answer to what he said? It's really much better. |
