PG crash misreported as HG crash 2012- 05- 12.
The female pilot was from North Carolina.
USHPA profile:
P3 by Bill Armstrong, '08
FL CL RS
Rick Majors, get your, PDMC, gun out!
Of the 8 initial media reports, 7 reported it a HANG accident.
Only the report from the life guards was correct.
Surely even the beach nudies know the difference.
Why would anyone report it as a hang glider crash. |

Probably not the best thing to focus on right now.
But it does seem the media talks to the operators of TPG after every incident.
And from what I believe (I can't think of any hard evidence or specifics now, I may be wrong - I think it may come from stories where they claim to have interviewed the operators, and they still misreport it), the operators are glad to be under the Aegis of the USHGA in such incidents - yes its the USHPA now, but I can imagine the operators being intentionally misleading.
But this also happened last year at Ed Levin, so unless there is some code among paragliding instructors to tell the media that we're all hanggliders, I may just be imagining things. _________________ H4, Litespeed 4 w/ Mylar sail.

Maybe a better use of this thread would be to express our sorrow at the death of a fellow pilot, and offer our condolences to the family.

Very sad indeed. My heart goes out to the family and friends.
It was rough weekend flying. Summer is here.

But ~3 days now and noone's started a topic to express sorrow, on .org.
I have already expressed my sorrow previously, elsewhere. Sorry, if anyone was offended.

From all accounts, I can too. |

SF Chronicle reported it as a PG. She slammed into the cliff while her BF watched. How sad.
"San Diego lifeguard Lt. Nick Lerma says lifeguards rappelled down to retrieve the woman but she was pronounced dead at the scene."

Manta,
The ... initial... reports, within several hours of the happening
.
As reported by San Diego,10 News, 2 days after the accident:

| Quote: |
| A friend of the couple who did not want to be identified told 10News he had met Hargett a few times.Hargett and her fiancé David would travel to San Diego from South Carolina and flew with a local paragliding group, according to the friend. The friend described Hargett as having piloted her own paraglider for two to three years.] |
"Piloted her own paraglider for two to three years." Very informative, friend ?
Do any of the South Carolina locals know Hargett?
