Here is an awesome day at Mt Diablo!! With an inversion at 3800ft I manage to Punch through multiple times, pull off a triangle from north peak to Mitchell Rock, back up to Eagle, over to Bald, back to launch, North peak again, then in for the landing. What a day!!
Nice flight brother, I had a goode one at MCClure ,a little over 2hours, getting up to 4,200ft. And I pulled off 3 very low save outa the landing zone ,,the last one I was maybe about 200ft from landing. Was great to be in the air _________________ ACP
Great flight (and landing), Robert. That was entertaining, educational, and just downright fun! Wished I could have heard your vario when you bumped into those thermals. All in all, a great video with awesome scenery and the closing credits were pretty cool too. Enjoyed the ride! _________________ Freedom 170 FR
Flew the Devil for the first time yesterday, All I can say is for the second hang 4 site I have flown, I am showing consistancy in my skills as just as I did at Mission Ridge, I dominated and slew the landing zone with my ACP wantabe skills! Going XC for the first time and just as far as the famed RM, I can tell you the doorways are looking narrow this morning.
What really happened, Great weather for the first time there, Carm and I met WingMan at 10 for a lz walkthrough, the northwest winds called for the tower launch so we stopped at the Mitchell Canyon lz, We talked about the routes down, thermal generators, and possible approches and I came away feeling good about the flight to come. To the top and meet at the Juniper launch, facing wsw its not for today, but the campsite is there, and so are a bunch of pilots, The Big Guy is there [this is his fly in] and I have to say he is looking great ! We load up and head off to launch, There were so many pilots that I had to wait for the first group to launch before setup. Fine with me, first time off I like to watch the locals in the air for a bit if I can. If you think about this launch too much you probably won't do it. You stand on the edge of about 50 dg ledge with bushes 50 ft below. to the right is a huge rock that will roter you if it the wind switches, which it is doing in cycles. Robert explains that launching at the right time is the key to no worrys, so while the first group is seting up I get a chair and sit on launch with the wind in my face looking out at the pacific ocean 30 miles away the cycles are punchy but regular and getting more so over time. The McClure boys have shown up, Kenny Brown Robert Moore, and all the Diablo locals, so launch is like old home week, some of my favorite people in the world. As the first batch punched off with talk of going long and retrive plans and radio checks, it looked good, over launch and headed downwind, only to return one by one to soar the mountain some more, great flights were had by all, I didn't hear any compaints afterword. I was the last to launch and the wind was more west so the bolder roter was not an issue. Three steps and I'm flying, to the bowl on the right, there should be something,I get small pops but nothing to turn in, back across the face again but it's so bumpy I leave and head out thinking about where would I be if I was a thermal. I'm not where Bob is flying if I'm a thermal cause my vario goes from two to three to four hundred ft sink so I take evasive manuvers and head to the lz. I get two blips that I turn in but both leave me lower than I started. Boxing the lz at a thousand ft I finally find something. I can maintain, but I'm not really climbing out. I play there for about ten minutes checking the wind direction, it is now straight west and some pilots have chosen to land on the plateu above Mitchell Canyon which looks better to me. On approch I do all I can to get down fast as I was expecting it to be turbulant, Not so, nice 5-7 coming in and as I level off I am coming up on a shallow slope with an uphill on the other side, perfect, I lift my knees as I top the lip to clear and followed the slope down and back up to a no steper that no one saw . Oh well thats always the way. the go pro didn't record either, again. Applebees afterwords and it was all smiles. Jays birthday, Flight reports, lots of laughing. WOW! I can't wait to do it again, the forcast looks incredible for today, hope to see you up there.

Pretty goldfish you caught !!!
I do appreciate the effort, Carm and Bob, to keep me in California permanently ...
Little fish, big fish, swimming in the water ...
I was disapointed my go pro didn't get my flight, it turned off just before launch, last one off, no one left to film, so everyone was headed down, last night I get a call, Someone took pictures of me in the air and they made it into the local paper, with comentary by RM! I am so stoked!
