Been a while since you last posted...
Great to see you are going to stick with it for another round.
Good luck!

Good luck with your endeavor. Lookout is ok. I trained there. Just don't shop there.

Jeez Bob, you haven't even moved to the West Coast yet and you're already starting to bad mouth the 'folks back home'?
Hot Mama, you'll do well at Lookout. They're good people and they have a good school. Maybe I'll see you in the sky there someday?!?

Glad to hear you are coming. I hope to get up when you two are flying and meet you both.
While you're here, do consider taking the intro package rather than just a tandem. That will get you a morning on the training hills in addition to a tandem. Personally, I loved flying on the hills, and to this day I'm still a little shaky about tandems. Odds are that you'll get airborne on your first day on the hills, and there's just nothing like flying solo.

They're penchant for screwing students on equipment is well documented.

Yes, I'll give you that. I still hold that they are good people and it's a great place to learn to fly. I trained there and I have no regrets.

I would disagree. Did I get a discount on my glider? No. I did get one on everything else. Also, I got all the additional training on top of what my package provided, including the additional 10 or so flights I needed to get my signoff for the mountain at no additional charge, plus the additional nine visits to the training hills needed to get my 10 observed solos. I've also gotten help with my launches after having gotten my H2, including instruction on wire assist launches. I've gotten very good value for my money.

| Well I hope I like it and I hope it fun and exciting just as it seems. My only fear is that I have never even flown in a plane before, so this will be quite the experience.

You don't need to have any previous flight experience. In many ways you're better off starting from scratch because flying HG is completely different than other forms of aviation.
You are guaranteed to enjoy the experience. If you get hooked, you are going to become immersed in a life that few have ever experienced. It is awesome beyond description!!!

Yes, Lookout is a great place to learn to hang glide. I apologize for sounding so jaded. The intructors there are first rate. They have an excellent facility for the entire family. If you are buying new equipment, they are great. For students buying used equipment, I stand by my previous statement and have personal experiences to draw from including people I trained with. Not trying to start a pissing match here and I'm sorry if I have insulted anyone.

Neither of my daughters had ever flown in a plane before their tandems, and they both loved it. I have to say I was a bit intimidated.

| I think I would feel more secure if I knew the person doing the piloting. Oh well, I am super excited and counting the days!

hotmama,
you will enjoy the training you receive there, I did. Just take any sales pitch of used gliders with a grain of salt. Buy your glider elsewhere and don't buy their custom made harnesses.

As Matt Taber will attest, it is much better to have your first flight at the training hill and then later go for a tandem.

What do you have against their harnesses?

| I've had a lookout gt backplate harness for 16 years, and have no complaints... Very durable. Not the most aerodynamic, but good value for the money

Yepper, a flying buddy had a GT Race, loved it for many years and it retained it's value as I sold it for around $350 last year...
