2-Hour, 46-mile flight from Walt's Point along the Sierra Nevada mountains and down the Owens Valley. Edited in 2-second intervals. Wills Wing T2C 144 hang glider & Covert harness.
The attached tracklog show me in red and XC partner Dizzy (PG) in green.
I'm sorry Jonathan, but that was one of the most unwatchable things I've ever seen. Cutting for the sake of cutting... and cutting 10 billion times? You can do better!
(arguing just for arguments sake- so if you don't feel like playing, just ignore )

If you are the author... aren't I a member of 'the public'? How do you know WHAT 'the public' wants? The public doesn't even know what the public wants

Our personal sensibilities do not count. It's been a hard pill to swallow.
Are you saying you didn't like it either? Then why make it that way?! You were the pilot, videographer, editor... you are the storyteller... tell it your way. And if people don't like YOUR way, tell 'em to piss off- myself included (myself especially!)
I kind of think I maybe know what you mean, that people like fast-paced cutting to keep their attention... but as an editor and member of the MTV generation, I think you have missed the finer points of fast-paced cutting here...
......Are you saying you didn't like it either?...
I like it a lot but it's not what I'd normally do. I plan on doing a different edit if and when I ever have the time. Dizzy sent me three video vignettes he shot of me climbing up from below his PG that I'll use if I do another edit. Down give yourself a cramp here:
I'll stick with my .02 and see what others have to say...
Want to see what I consider a truly excellent video? Then watch this in its entirety: http://www.hanggliding.org/viewtopic.php?t=22238
Do not skip any part of it and watch the entire flight in one sitting. The utterly tepid response it has gotten from Org viewers speaks for itself.
I like the movie, but its indeed hard to watch.
- More relaxing music for such a great scenery would be much better.
- Combination of 3-15 sec shots.
- Too much Sierra and not enough Owens valley / Inyo _________________ http://skydizzy.blogspot.com/

Dude, seriously? I am beginning to believe that you do *NOT* understand how editing works.... ok, so you took a 4 hr flight and paired it down to 30 mins (2 parts at 15 mins/each)... I'm sorry, but I not watching 30 mins of you. I'm not watching 30 mins of ME!
Not to mention that you are tauting your own video as 'truly excellent', and in the same sentence saying it's getting 'utterly tepid response'...
It's all about what you want to do... if you want people to watch your videos, keep 'em short, and ONLY the best parts. Set a length of movie, and stick to that. I personally like 4 mins... people will look at a vid and say "I've got 4 mins". If there's a shot you want to put in, and you're over the duration you set, then take something else out.
OR- if you want to make a longer video, you need to hook people. Develop a story, a challenge, SOMETHING... and have multiple camera angles to cut between.
I am by no means saying I'm an editing master (although I do have a BS in video production, which seems appropriate)... but here are some examples:
....Not to mention that you are tauting your own video as 'truly excellent', and in the same sentence saying it's getting 'utterly tepid response'...
Correct. The tepid response tells me that there is little or no interest among the vocal Org members in learning what it's like to fly XC in difficult and challenging conditions. Notice I said the word, vocal. I'm sure you understand the concept. After all you have a BS degree don't you?
It's a reflection of what has happened to this forum. The forum has devolved rather sadly over the past three years.
Luckily, there are a lot of viewers who don't waste their breath posting here and instead save it for telling me in person what they got out of my video(s). It is for these viewers that I post what I consider to be quality and worthwhile video.
As I said, the tepid response is to me a reflection on the forum. Just ask the dozens and dozens of former members who once posted excellent content why they left. On second thought don't bother.
