What about a xc comp that doesn't allow any instruments, or any power assisted launch, and radios only for communication with driver about location (or for safety). Would that be possbile? I think it would be fun to compete with just the wing and our natural senses. Does anyone else think so?

i see from your avatar that you are from Fla. how do you propose that the gliders launch without some power source down there? leave that part out of the equation, make the arena small enough (in a valley) that NO radios are needed, and then let the cheating begin!!!

The only problem i see is trying to describe the tree next to you to the driver well enough so he might get a clue of your coordinates

Hmmmm.... I guess on the right day in the right season at the right time of day with the right glider and the right pilot I suppose you could do this in FL?

1) Launch at the beach

2) Condo soar to about 500-800ft

3) Find that thermal

4) Go XC

5) Have created a really REALLY long cord tied to two cans so you can let your driver know where you are.

6) have learned from the cheap aluminum thread that you could make a new set of DT that are no where close to the quality of WW!

7) Have a bottle of your own micro-brewed libation.
