Greetings all,

Some musings on growing our sport. I'll be the first one to admit that I have my own thoughts on it, but for this writing I'm gearing more toward events for new H-3's. There are a number of fly-ins and two comps that really serve to help grow and promote. First is to attend any fly-in regardless of rating!
Benefits: Flying with the mentors of our chosen sport. It's really hard to pass up this type of event, usually good pilot attendance, chance to increase special skill sign-offs, learn, and have fun.

There are some pilots of whom are just comfortable staying at the local site and then there are those that may have an inkling to venture forth. It is to this latter that I seek to address.

The Tennessee Tree-Toppers put on a great event each year to encourage and engage pilots of all ranks to enjoin themselves to a learning event to begin the wonderful process of a guided team to cover a distance task.

The Texas Thermal Riders host a single surface, ntss points ranked, race to goal comp to encourage up and coming pilots to begin their XC Odyessy. Top pilots attend, and all you need is a single surface glider and gps.

So with these two events already established, my questions are simple. What are you willing to do? What would you like to do?

Smooth winds!

- Joel
