Hi All,
I was in Spain about 3 weeks ago. Mostly toured the area called Andalucia. I saw fantastic HG potential all around me (except you'd have to perfect landing among olives trees), but I didn't know of any sites to visit there. When I got back, and started working on my story, I noticed a little hang glider symbol right below the N in Andalucia. See map picture.
Does anyone know this site? Any name or photos? I'd love to visit it, if and when I go back.
Thanks for any info or references.
Cheers!

John Barratt of Southdowns Hanggliding does tours in southern Spain, and knows lots of sites there. I had some good fun flying with him down there. It could be worth hooking up with a tour, or some of the many pilots who go there (generally from Europe).

You'll propably find it (and most other European sites) on:
http://www.paragliding365.com/index-p-flightarea1_22_0.html
Unfortunately in German, but you could run the google translator. Click the sites on the map and you'll get a more detailled description.

Google Earth shows a VABA * at that location. But really mountainous, with forests.
*Vast Area of Bugger All

Hi Terry,
I don't know about the location you refer to on the map (to me, it looks like they have simply drawn the hang glider picture in a place where they had space to do so).
Maybe the most well known location for hang gliding in Andalucia is around the town of Algodonales. There are some good sites for most wind directions close to the town, with the main ridge to the north of town being good for any flavour of south or west.
Algodanales is located about half way between Malaga and Sevilla. I flew there 5 or 6 years ago, renting a glider from Tony Webb who runs a HG school in the region (www.lejair.com). I don't know if he still rents gliders, but it's probably worth asking if you go back to the area and want to fly.
Cheers, Geoff

Caballeros,
Gracias for those informative responses.
Special thanks to Goeff and Pablo.
Algodonales - what a great looking flying site. And very good web site too.
I can't believe I was only 15km away (in Grazalema), and missed the opportunity.
It's interesting that BabelFish translates "parapente" as "hang glider".
I've book-marked those web-sites for future use.
Hasta luego,
Terry from Toronto
