last week we did some lessons on the beach. i might have sat on and rubbed against some stubborn mud/grass stains. whats the best way to clean your harness? im pretty sure i DONT throw it into the machine. someone suggest you should soak it in water/soap, and hand wash. any other tips?

I machine wash. I have washed a cocoon and a rotor that way. I am lazy, it was easy.

really? i have an HE tracer. would a pod getaway with the machine? i figure its a lot more bulky than a cocoon, i have one of those old school top loading machines. not too big and it might not fit the pod well.

For the rotor, I took out the backplate, shoved it in, used the normal nontoxic soap that I use for all laundry, put it on the delicate setting, and that's it. I used my home washing machine.

I would take it to the laundry mat and use the biggest one they have. Good idea! Cool

Delicate cycle.

I didn't wash the lines because it was a good excuse to replace them, but it won't damage the cordage or anything.

I used to apply Scotch Guard after washing. made clean up much easier the next time and stains did not soak into the fabric

I've cleaned mine several times. Car wash detergent in a large bucket and a
scrub brush. Rinse with garden hose. Recommend doing it on a good warm day
early and letting it air dry rest of day. Use simple green for any serious spotting and wash with sudsy water then rinse.

I bought an older WW Z-3 that was heavily soiled and and the wrong color for me. I took it to a laundromat and sprayed it pretty thoroughly with spray and wash and put it in a machine with detergent (Tide). Ran it thru twice because the water was filthy during the first wash cycle and it was still soapy when it finished. It came out looking pretty darn good and I hung it over some metal folding chairs on the deck to air dry. Then I soaked it overnite in black Rit dye and very hot water in a large tub and agitated it periodically. Then rinsed it thoroughly in warm water. Repeated the dye treatment the next night. It came out looking respectable and in good shape. I was wearing it in the aerotow videos. These harnesses are stoutly built and a washing machine isn't going to hurt them but still use a little caution with lines etc. First pic is after the first dye bath with an original color pocket that was unserviceable. Second pic is after 2nd bath.

Stains you are worried about stains? Laughing Sorry did I laugh out loud.

When I wash my harness it usually because it is stinky with sweat. I wash with simple green and rinse then rinse some more. I will attempt to scrub out any stains but it just adds character. Mr. Green

Hang to dry.

Just my .02 cents, but I bought a used Tracer harness 3 or so years ago that hade heavy stans on the parachute container. I soaked it in the tub with Tide laundry detergent and scrubbed the stains away. Looked great! However, the foam inside the harness where the sewing machine needle had passed through, had all seperated, sort of like tearing paper along a perferated line, and the foam would bunch up and fold inside the nylon when it was folded inside the gear bag. Not a huge deal, but that harness would have some lumps that looked "wrong" when out of the bag. I now wash my WV Cosmic using a wet rag/scrub/hang dry technique and folded foam is never an issue. mosh

Bobfly, you Z3 dye job looks freakin' awesome!!! thumbsup
