Hello all
I'm Paddy and i am based in England. I have just started hang gliding after wanting to do it for countless years but circumstances and cash stopped me.
I am doing my elementary pilot course and then onto the club pilot afterwards.
44 years old with a reasonable fitness level but do need more exercise.
Looking forward to my first un-tethered flight.
I hope you accept a 'brit' into your ranks and offer me your expertise as i am going to need it.
Will post up some pics when i can let go of the control bar
I'm off to read some posts now
Be gentle with me |

Thanks, I am already in love with HG. I started a course ten years back but never finished. I have been itching to get back ever since and only this year got the funds to do it. Got to wait till Saturday for the next flight.
Can't wait........ |

Welcome Paddy! I very recently started and I love every bit of it. You're not going to regret getting back in a glider!
And yeah, you'll find there aren't many female pilots on here. It's a bit odd, but it's dealable-with. Still, I feel like I stick out like a sore thumb..

Welcome!
It's true that Male US pilots are the majority on the forum, that just means that the minorities have to be louder.
I'm an Ozzie Male, but there are Ozzies, Kiwis, Canadians and a bunch of others of both sexes. It's very much an english speaking forum, but I'm not sure why, there is no reason to not post in other languages.
=:)
PS, I'm talking both to Paddy and anyone else who might be holding back from talking because this forum seems to be male or US dominated. I have worked out that Paddy is also male. So contribute no matter where you're from or which way you're constructed! _________________ Jason Rogers,

dont be disassapointed if it doesnt happen.. again.. and again... UK Hill training is frustrating to say the least, so the thing to bear in mind is NOT give up, as so many do, out of frustration at not flying. Stick at it, and it will happen, but pbe prepared that it will take longer than you originally thought.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys and girls. I know what you mean about English weather as i got frustrated when i tried it all those years ago. A bit wiser and more patient than before I now know what to expect.
The weather stopped me last weekend but it is allegedly going to be better conditions this weekend (fingers crossed).
The school i am training at is the 'Peak District Hang Gliding Centre' which seems a good school. I am also taking notes from the 'Hang gliding Training Manual' which has been packed away for many years.
Anyone got any tips on a good first wing? My choice is an Areos Target due to its breakdown length should i wish to travel (I am open to suggestions though). I want a good modern glider that will last me some years till i am experienced enough to progress to something more advanced. At present i have nothing in terms of equipment. I want a harness and helmet before i get a wing All tips greatly appreciated. |
