Does the technology exist today to create a compact enough hand glider that is able to be carried on your back while also being able to collapse or fold while not in use so that you can maneuver on the ground? I would picture there being low profile mounts for your hands and feet while the glider had the capability to lock in place when fully extended. Seeing as how the bottom of the glider would be dragging across the ground when walking since it would need to be so large perhaps the appropriate bottom portion of the glider could fold up and then re shape itself when fully extended.

I would assume that since hang glider must me so large in order to produce enough lift to effectively carry a human it would be difficult to do this and that having the glider be collapsible would create a more complicated structure which could be prone to more accidents.

There was an inflateable hang glider made in France I believe? It was posted on here 6 months ago or so. Forgot what it was called.

Do a tiny bit of research. Avoid showing total ignorance.
It is called a paraglider. Probably safer and would out perform a hang glider so compromised by your design criteria

That inflatable hang glider is very intriguing, I never knew something like that existed.

Appears to fly just fine. Intriguing is a good word.

Well sure, if you want a wing that cant even handle -1 negative G's before collapsing.

Hang gliders are certified to minimum -4 G's.

Sounds like a wingsuit,

The inflatable hang glider might work for ridge soaring but as soon as you gained any real altitude the pressure differential would cause it to pop. On the inverse if you launched at altitude the wing would loose its rigidity as you descend.

I would rather get hit over the head with one of noman's bongs before strapping myself under a inflatable glider copy

Are these lighter than your average hang glider?

Actually this is precisely the idea I was thinking of. Would a hang glider of this origin be theoretically possible? Seeing as how the height of the glider would have to be reduced to be viable for walking around the width could be drastically increased, just like glider planes you see with incredibly long wingspans.

That is something that was on my mind when looking at that design.
