Neat video. 'Enjoyed' your comments/thoughts on your predicament in the draws. Not the best ad for a Falcon.... But, I'm still interested in finding a used 195 or a used Sport 2 175. Wanted to go new but $ are tight. I suspect I'll eventually end up with a Sport 2 - maybe starting back into hg on a used Falcon. Sounds like I might have gotten a good deal on one if I'd been there when you landed??? _________________ U2 160 • Chattaroy, WA - USA

I hear there might be a used Freedom for sale in your neck of the woods...well, if you consider Oregon local.
As much as I love this remarkable freedom machine, I might be tempted to let this excellent condition, tweaked out, 100 hour Freedom go as a part trade on a nice T2C.

Next Saturday is our bi-weekly Falcon League. Come on out and rent one from Greblo. It's intended for H-4s and is not intended to train aspiring XC pilots. I think the video does a good job of showing why.
Some of us push it more than others but you can land them just about anywhere and just hike out to a road.
Very exciting! Nice. I need to start talking to myself more while flying... I think it helps focus one's process. _________________ http://pjwings.blogspot.com/

Thanks. I find that my need to vocalize my thoughts varies from moment t moment but it's a very important tool for my concentration. It seems like most folks are able to sub-vocalize all the time whereas I can only do that a fraction of the time. I had a brutal time getting through school because of not being able to process information internally.
Heck of a flight and heck of a fight. Thanks, Jonathon. Very thought provoking video. G/S between 4&5 mph? Ouch!
Thanks Bob. I ran out of energy before adding a narrative track to tie it all in together. When my G/S was down to 0 to 5 mph, I had the glider in full mush and worked the lift by hovering. Red-tailed hawks do this all the time. I have gone backwards as fast as 7 mph using this technique when thermalling in a 25 mph wind.
The really hairy part of the flight was when I drifted back behind Kagel Mountain well beyond the recommended 45 degree angle from the spine. Then I hit sink plus a 20 mph headwind trying to penetrate out. There was another similar scene later in the flight where I lose all of my altitude trying to get around the lee side of Trash Mountain then scratch my way back up slowly. Both cameras lost about 10-15% of their battery capacity due to the low temperatures. I was unable to record my landing in a gusty 8-13 mph 90-degree crosswind. I did a lot of running and yawing as I touched down but held it level.
My impression or guess is that more viewers are more interested in watching XC flying situations in a Falcon than a T2C. I will try to keep pushing it and recording the attempts to go further.
Wow, glad you got some lift. You did such a good job conveying your concerns my palms were getting a little sweaty just watching the video. I was empathizing to the max. We deserved to see you land after all that! _________________ I keep cuttin' it and cuttin' it, but it's still too short.

I felt pretty bad about the lost landing. At 2:18 flight time I went to shut off the camera but it was already dead. There may have been just enough self-rejuvenation in the battery had I stayed in the air a bit longer but I was pretty ragged out after my 3rd consecutive day and 7-3/4th hour of unrelaxing flying time. Well, it was probably relaxing in much the same way that motocross and mogul skiing are relaxing. We'll forget about the Hurt Locker..........
With that Falcon league you must really learn to appreciate how much of a difference your T2C makes. Frustrating is right. I remember times I'd gain 2000' on a Falcon and lose it all in 5 minutes without gaining any ground. _________________ H2 / Sport 2 155

Yup! On Thursday I was able to punch through areas of sink in my T2C that would have put me underground on the Falcon. The upside of the Falcon is that it improves one's decision making and strategy in a way that a topless isn't likely to do.
But then there was this 20-mile out and return flight I did on a Falcon and only one Litespeed made the same trip and I nearly caught up with him.

Would love to do that. I'll be in CA in the late May through June time frame. I'll bring my harness/chute/helmet just-in-case I have the time. I was a H4 in 1981. I'm sure I'm rusty but it will only take a bit of air to WD40 that rust. My 'forte' was flying new sites and new gliders. I got wired into gliders pretty quickly (good idea of their LD and handling - both keys to setting up a decent landing). The one glider that I found the most challenging to fly was the Aolus. I never did get wired into its handling (yaw characteristics I just didn't get used to). It flew a goodly measure more differently than any other glider I flew. From all I know about the Falcon I'll bet it is a fun/rewarding glider to fly.
I'd like to ditto comments on your flying thought vocalizations - just makes your videos that much more real - and therefore more of a pleasure to watch. _________________ U2 160 • Chattaroy, WA - USA
