a none pilot friend saw this guy at mission bay San Diego with his home made glider. visqueen and PVC pipe. claimed his longest ground skim was over 25 feet. [/img] think it has VG?
its not mine. a friend spotted this guy and foward me the pics. I had a cell phone vid but it sucked and I lost it. _________________ SKY PIMP

I know it's not yours Brad. Your sarcasm is understood. And a natural part of hg communication.
Keep those hotties inflated. I admire you for keeping the elders feeling young!!!!!
If I make it to SD (Torrey) with my mom. You better promise to do what you do, for her.
She doesn't trust me. I wouldn't either, if I was my Mom....LOL. _________________ The sky is no longer the limit! Only our imaginations will be our limit!

There's no way that a "PVC" framed glider will do much more than let you ground skim for 25 feet - and I'm even leery of that. I think it's just a mutant hybrid between hang gliders and PGs. It's got bones, but they BEND! almost like rubber.
May not be such a bad thing, though, if a "Wack!" could become a "Boing!" _________________ WW 141 Fusion SP

I'm plenty leery of it as well, but that's cable (or something) braced PVC. It's going to flex for sure, but just how much, I don't know. I think you could get more than 25ft.

I'll take a guess that they had a lot of conversations like this about those guys as well ;)
I noticed the "cables" also, but those leading edges do not have what we used to call deflexors. Just static on the ground, in the above picture, you can see how "deformed" the left LE is. Imagine the glider under load, in the air!
BTW - The first glider I attempted to fly was a "Bamboo Butterfly" of my own design. It used bamboo poles for the keel and leading edges. I'd describe them as being as stiff as (or stiffer then?) similar OD aluminum tubing. PVC tubing is a lot more flexible than bamboo.
Note: I used three 1" x 12' bamboo poles for each LE and keel. I over lapped two to make 18' then overlapped the third across the middle of the other two. I then took Mylar packing tape and bound them together in a "bundle".
I worked in a carpet store at the time and could easily get hold of the 1" bamboo poles (some of the area rugs were wrapped around them). However, the ~ 1 1/2" OD bamboo poles were very rare and often only came in 8-9 foot lengths. Still, the bigger bamboo poles were VERY stiff for their size and weight! _________________ WW 141 Fusion SP

Well now, that's why the first HG I designed would have been made out of 2x4s. No worry about flexing there. It would have been perfectly safe, because I wouldn't have been able to lift it off the ground. 64 square feet of wing, I think. I'm still hoping to find those pencil drawings at my parents' house someday. _________________ H4 + various skills (only foot-launch so far)

Hey, I used to see that guy in Balboa Park with his glider every so often last year. He didn't have a kingpost on it yet back then. _________________ H2, FL, FSL
Seems that he is trying to re-invent the wheel,,so to say. I would bet, if I was a betting man, it would not skim for 25 ft ! _________________ H4,AT,FL,AWCL,CL,FSL,RLF,TUR,X-C,WRK(who really knows)

a bit douchy, but cool for a dummass idea! pvc seems quite dodgy though. it could snap. should have used bamboo or aluminum. i wouldn't even try to fly it much further than the 25 feet he said it goes, myself, being how flimsy it is. i'm surprised it flies at all. _________________ Gliders flown: homebrew '60s/'70's style bamboo/canvas rogallo, Batso, Bamboo Butterfly, Kilbo, Aerostructures MK 5 Dickenson Skiwing, Chandelle Standard Rogallo..

Looks like it would make a great picnic umbrella. Is that a roll of masking tape I see in the foreground? Should have used duct tape. Then it would have been airworthy.
