I just finished off a nice brunch with my dad, daughter, and other family members. We'll be spending the day together and doing a BBQ later on. It will be quite nice, but I'm (obviously) thinking about flying - at least a bit.
When I got into the Fatherhood Game, I had a vision of what Father's Day would be like. I would pretty much get to do whatever I wanted, and the family would support and facilitate my wishes. Specifically, the day would consist of them packing up a sumptuous picnic, and escorting me to the mountain of my choice. There, we would enjoy the meal, followed by me setting up my glider and having a terrific flight while they cheered me on from below. Later, they'd have a few cold ones waiting for me after I landed. They would ask about every detail of my flight, and help me load my gear back on the vehicle. Ahhh...fantasies.
The reality is that I'm expected to make myself available for whatever the family has planned. Don't get me wrong - I love my family and cherish spending time with them. I always enjoy what they have planned. I've just come to realize that getting the kind of Father's Day I'm looking for is probably a fantasy.
So, my question to the other fathers out there - Is your Father's Day more like my reality or my fantasy?
I realise that you will all proabally think I am all wet, but I think that Fathers are treated like a afterthought. Hell, there is one day out of 365 days a year that is your Day. I am not a Father, but I realised early on that [ THIS ] day was set aside for Fathers Day. I mean generally, Fathers are not held in high regards, I say give these men at least this one day. We could add a family day. So, hell give the Fathers a day. Well rock on Dadm happy Fathers day. Good bye for now. Best regards, The big Guy.
Happy Father's Day ......................................Ahhh...fantasies.

bad habits are like a comfortable bed, easy to get into,
but hard to get out of.
Four reasons I don't fly much ... little daughter, Ruby the Cat, big sister (holding Ruby), the local weather.
Juggling free time, and the local weather, to go flying is difficult. I told the wife I need a powered harness (Mosquito or Explorer) so that I can fly more often ... she thinks I am joking, but voiced her objection to the idea anyway.
It's been my observation that Mother's Day and Father's day are opposites, that Mother's Day is more like Take a Break from Being a Mother's Day, and Father's day is more like Be a Father's Day, so my experience is more like remmoore's. I did manage to get away for an hour to ride my bike, and spent an hour or so watching a car race, but going to the mountain would be unthinkable.
Hmmmm? Could it be that teenagers suffer from HG 3 or instructor syndrom? _________________ The sky is no longer the limit! Only our imaginations will be our limit!

I seem to be in the same situation even though I'm not (and have never been) a father, and I don't have a father any more. Go figure. _________________ H4 + various skills (only foot-launch so far)

Yesterday was an unusual day in New England...it wasn't raining!
I heard thru the grapevine that it might be a decent flying day a couple days earlier so I told my wife that i would like to celebrate fathers day the night before.
Well the fireworks started and the last thing I heard was...Its always about what you want to do!!!!!!
I looked at my lovely bride and said ITS FREAKING FATHERS DAY IT IS ABOUT ME!
Under duress I found myself sitting at some frekin barbecue on my deck with an ipad on my lap with the latest XCskies running and a ham radio set to the XC frequency of my flying buddies freakin dying with a plastic smile on my face reading hallmark cards.
When my kids were a little younger living at home they used to ask ....Hey Dad what would you like for fathers day....I would say ...help carrying my equipment up Mt Ascutney.
I woulds get some neck tie instead,..... today the wife and kids suck.
