Thanks Marc,
I look forward to getting a copy of your manual in PDF. I flew my newly acquired Freedom 170 for 2 3/4 hours on Saturday at Crestline w/ Remoore and company who came down from Norcal. We had a great time in the air and you'll see his Atos along w/ his buddy Mike's Laminar. I left the SD cards out of 2 of my 3 cameras so I only got a few photos from our driver and just my basetube camera but no wing camera. As far as a flying report goes, it's very much as John Heiney describes in the June USHPA magazine (ignoring the ludicrous glide ratio claims). I did fly it farther downrange than I ever would have gone on my Falcon however.
Cheers, Jonathan
You replied as I was sending you the manual. I sent it to your verizon address.

With your experience? I don't think so. Joel tells me they've made several changes to it for thermaling ability etc. The basebar has been moved back several inches so the pilot doesn't have to push out so far when circling in a tight thermal for one. We'll compare it to John Stokes Freedom and do a comparison write up between the 2 wings. Looks like John is getting some cross bar fairings and a set of front and rear cables to change the basetube location although he has no complaints as is. My flying wires are apparently race wires also. I'm going falcon hunting at Lookout in 2 weeks. _________________ Freedom 170 FR

Can't blame a player for trying now can ya?
I'm very happy so far with my straight basebar and its location. I had just enough aft bar to hold a decent spin and for tight thermalling I had more than enough. For stuffing the bar it was also well placed so I may not bother with getting a speedbar.
Here's a shocker: I weighed my glider in its bag and it was 65-66#, whereas my T2C 144 is only 73-74# in its bag. Who's fooling who here on the weight specs? There's no way the bags add up to more than 6#. I never fly without my cover bags so it all goes into the tally.
It was interesting to note that my Cocoon harness weighs 15# less than my Rotor harness. I'd prefer to fly w/ my cocoon harness on this glider but the spaghetti hits the aft wires which is harmless but annoying. I plan to order a slightly longer hang strap from Kamron but for now I have no issues w/ handling. Hopefully, I can get a ride up the hill in Sylmar Wednesday and fly it in mid-day Summer turbulence. That will be the acid test for me. Somehow I have a hunch I will enjoy the bronco ride. Maybe I'll remember to load a memory card into both cameras this time?
Thanks for all of the compliments guys. She IS a purty thang. Jonathon, when I shouldered the bag to carry it out of the hanger...er..garage, I thought damn, this things as heavy as that 180! I was looking forward to a little less weight.
(sigh) I hope it carries me better then I can carry it.
Thanks RC and Connor. I'm really stoked to get her up in the air. _________________ Freedom 170 FR
My own Freedom is a hefty lift to say the least. I am just guessing that the full Mylar sail has something to do with that??? _________________ In the end, there can be only one...
If you REALLY want to make us drool, the next picture you post ought to be an in-flight shot..
.. mighty awesome sky decoration you have there!! _________________ Happy landings,
