Ok, sorry this is breif, posting from my phone...
Points of interest with the new HD GoPro:
- comes with 1100 mah rechargable battery. Charges via USB from any computer (no software, drivers, etc needed).
- housing comes with alternate back door, with two cutouts in it. Somehow these cutouts actually REDUCE wind noise below 100 mph. Haven't tried it yet...
- you can play HD video right out of the camera (comes with component-out cables).
- new menu system lets you set date/time (recorded in video/photo metadata)
- new menu system lets you erase the last clip you recorded, or format (erase) the entire card
- accepts up to 32 GB cards
here's a quick sample I shot yesterday morning- read the description for more info...

Cheers,
Ryan

Sorry if I'm the broken record here....
Those are great cameras... if you're going to be pointing away from yourself.
The one time I don't use my GoPro is for shots like that... if say, I'm trying to get aerial footage of a glider from the tug.
If you're pointing the camera at yourself however (like most of the stuff we do)... the GoPro has no competition.
I've never been happier with a camera (and I've had a ton of cameras).
I'm pissing myself waiting for the HD

I've never used the viewfinder on my GoPro.
(seriously... never. Never needed it)
It's 170deg field of view... you just point it somewhere kinda towards what you want and it works.

the eight hours sound good but with a 3 hour battery life you will have to land after 2 1/2 hour flying...

Well then it's good to have the years of experience with extending radio and GPS battery life.
It's only the new pilots that need to learn how to do that.

Very nice Ryan.
The clarity is really good, whether sitting still or moving and it retains
it's clarity even with close-up mug shots.
Suggested retail?

Yes, there is no viewfinder. Like Jim said, the viewfinder was pretty useless anyway.
There is going to be an LCD back available 'early 2010', which will allow you to see exactly what the camera sees. I believe there will also be a wireless remote, with an LCD screen, so you can see what the camera sees... wirelessly....

Just re-read the paperwork that came with the camera...
-1100mah battery life is roughly 2.25 hrs of recording
-average record times:
-1080P: 12 min/GB (max would be about 3.2 hrs)
-960P: 13 min/GB
-720P/30fps: 16 min/GB
-720P/60fps: 11 min/GB (smooth slow-mo mode)

That video reminds me of the POV my friend Jerry must of had when we tied him to the roof of my car - naked - back in college. We were gonna tie him to hood but nobody wanted to watch the crack of his butt as we were driving down the road... but I digress.
I'd like to see a hang gliding video from that camera while mounted out on the sprog. I might have to pop for one.
