OK. We've gone WAY off topic here with the religion thing. But if you are a non religious person, or a fence sitter who is not sure and hasn't really thought about it read:
- God is NOT great. How religion poisons everything by Christopher Hitchens
- The End of Faith by Sam Harris
- Letter to a Christian Nation by Sam Harris

but don't read The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. He's brilliant but the book is not.

And if you just want to have a laugh about religion, go to mrdeity.com

If you don't care much for the religious discussion, but you consider yourself a free thinker and you're interested in science and skepticism listen to the podcast called The Skeptics Guide to the Universe. It's a really fun show about science, critical thinking, medicine, etc. and you'll learn SOOOO much.

OK I'm done knocking on cyber doors.

I suck at recognizing faces. Once upon a time I was tested at the 35% level of the general population. One good thing about the video schtick is that other pilots will recognize me first and identify themselves which often helps save me the embarrassment of asking,"what's your name again?" for the eleventh time I had an acquaintance who had no ability to recognize a face. She knew who I was by the eyeglass frames. She also carried a Barbie Doll that had no face in order to help explain her predicament to others. Read, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks for more on this and other fascinating brain anomolies.

Hmmmm... I wonder if this has anything to do with all the anti-religious propaganda I'm always posting on my facebook.

Between that and HG videos my cart of full!

Perhaps, the fact that the surviving HG pilots have learned to subvert their egos in order to survive has something to do with it. On the other hand, many HG pilots would simply shrug and place a well-aimed slug through the vitals of a challenger rather than damage their flying hand. thumbsup Or offer the guy a beer.....

It may have something to do with the fact that in jiu jitsu, you get your ass kicked so much for the first 6 months that you literally have every little bit of ego beat out of you. ROFL . . .

Here's an idea. Perhaps hanggliding.org should set up an official headquarters where new "recruits" must go and get the snot beat out of them for a couple weeks (some, longer). good idea

Oh, wait, . . . doesn't that already happen on the training hills? Shocked Laughing

Never mind!

Another GREAT book that deals with light flight, hang gliding, elegant engineering and science is "More with Less" by Paul Ciotto

http://www.amazon.com/More-Less-MacCready-Efficient-Flight/dp/1893554902

It's basically a biography of Paul MacCready, father of human powered flight. The book follows the development of hang gliding and the development of the Gossamer Condor.

For you so-cal guys, I have a signed copy, but I also bought a loaner copy. So Jon, John, Dave, if you want to borrow it, I promise you'll really enjoy it.

Here's me with Dr. MacCready at a Cal-tech lecture.

Well, I think the argument vs debate part is important.

So I'm thinking maybe we should NOT bury it, but rather everyone hand shake and agree to move onto a new topic, rather than religion.

Seeing how a good debate actually acknowledges the "other" side's validity, I see this falling down the rat-hole of argument and internet trolling. Bury. OR, go back and remove any post off-topic (*cough*rel.*cough*)

After begrudgingly removing all of the unpleasentries from the Bible (many of which I'll miss dearly... them were some good times) I was left with faith. Not from what's written but what can be experienced. So the only debate remaining would then would be that of my experience or perception vs. your experience or perception. So I'm guessing you'd question my perception of experience. I've altered my perception enough times to recognize where the shortcomings of perceptions are and I'm still left with faith.

So splain me this... is there some middle ground between Bible thumping and Atheism in your world? This is where the discussion should really begin.

Oh yeah- I was actually asking for a hand shake suggestion but what the hell. I"m up for a good debate

Maybe it's for the best. I wouldn't want people to get the wrong impression about the website.

I'm debating on the BURY side.

my great-grandfather was approached by a preacher in the late 20's. the preacher said "you have 2 geese, I want one". no more preacher.

and this, Rod_Clark? -
"It's basically a biography of Paul MacCready, father of human powered flight." crazy

aviation isn't a one man show
