assuming you can get work in a tough job market, so cal is the way to go. housing is getting down to realistic prices. I'd recommend flying a few sites and then trying to live as close as possible to your favorite.
bay area's not bad, either. If you really like SF, it's worth it. |

Thats funny, I distinctly recall going snowboarding the same day as my coworker from UT and hering him say "I was amazed, it was like UT quality snow" granted it was still snowing all of that day, but the snow CAN BE high quality, after a week though it gets hard and icy _________________ TSA, DHS, NDAA and SOPA Seig Heil! |

Yup, it's been a great ski year. I got over 30 days in. Knee deep in Mammoth several times and many local pow days. The snow is drier here in the local mts than the sierras. Next month I'm going to fly the owens, jet ski Lake Diaz and spring ski Mammoth. In the same Day? |

I think noman got turned away from Diablo.
What happened with that anyway? They wouldn't give you a sticker?
That's another thing cool about Marina Beach dune gooning. No stickers, no waivers, no fees, no drivers, no politics. Just sign in at the kiosk, get a 5-minute intro, and you're set! Even the Gimp could hide out there. _________________ H2 / Sport 2 155

yA im there for the race,i want to learn to dune goon.I liked the crowd down there, there were a couple locals there and they were very accommodating.I dont know anything about diablo except i want to fly there but i would rather eat the south end of a north bound mule, then get a sticker from pat denavin. How about it remmoore, whats it take to fly there now?.Got any stickers?.Got any wavers?.Got any more rat mazes to run through?.Do i have to have a membership?.Why cant i just fly for the day?.Got any great flight stories about convergences?.I have flown there before so i dont know what the problem is now.Oh ya its the bay areas best thermal site, but u cant fly there. What a shame to have a site like this in such incompetent hands.
Hang fours should only have to show a valid ushpa card , sign a waver and maybe pay a day use fee.Why does this not make sense,oh ya we need more rules and monopoly's.
Robert if u wonder why nobody flys there, then thats my take on it.One more piece of advise,if you turn a guy away that has two car loads of people in tow and then turn around and post two strings about how good the convergence was that day,you kind of have to admit that was a d*** head thing to do.Lets solve the problem then i will stop crying.Either you help some1 or you dont,im leaning towards the later.
I have new j to tow out of now so now i get sum convergence

Sling,
I grew up in California and would have to be starving before I went back. I don't know what you do for a living, but could you do it anywhere? Cali would be great if you could remove about 15 million people. Real estate is high (though it's down some now )(and SD and SF are the highest), taxes are high to support all the illegals. I would suggest Utah, Southern Colorado, New Mexico, or north Central AZ before I would go to Cali. Much cheaper, but no beach. Plenty of mountains though. Best of luck on what ever you decide. _________________ Life's too short not to have fun every day

A note on the san diego water. Although relatively warm compared to the bay area, its still cold and requires a wetsuit pretty much year around. The warmest water month in san diego is still cold enough to get you hypothermic.
The median home price in san diego is down 44% from the peak and condos about 57% and still falling
Unemployment is skyrocketing. But that seems to be true in most metropolitan areas.
Foreclosures are still booming. One of the reasons we moved. Didnt want to rent several more years waiting for the market to level out.
Its always been a tough job market there. Be warned.
Like people said... its great if you can afford it (AKA: youre rich) _________________

| I'm single, no kids, etc so if I have to live in a smaller place I'm fine with it. I'm in the defense industry so my plan is to just relocate within the company. I talked to a guy who did the same thing and he said they even give you a decent raise when you move to help with the higher cost of living. |

Thats a good position to be in for a move like that. I have a lot of single guy friends in san diego that rent houses together or rent rooms from other guys sharing a house to keep costs really low.
I use to rent a beach house in La Jolla for $2400/month and rent 2 rooms out.
For the price of renting a room in SD, you can rent a 2 bedroom apartment in NC _________________

The other issue is your commute. If you work more than a few miles from your house, you have to get in line on the freeway. I'd have to keep a pistol on the seat next to me. Ok, breathe........................sorry _________________ Life's too short not to have fun every day

| Bla Bla Bla, same old Cali bashing. The truth is that they have spent billions making every freeway 12 lanes with carpool flyovers here in the OC. Many of my niegbhors work on C17's at Long beach airport (5Mi) or Boeing (2Mi). True the watre never gets above 75 Deg, but we get decent surf most of the year and there's plenty of beaches. As far as rent goes, you can get a nice 3 bdrm house for about 2k and a 2 bdrm apt for 1,200. And as far as the economy goes, it's recession proof around here. Too many billionaires still buying Lambos and ZR1's. There everywhere. |

Depends where you live. In Carmel Valley, San Diego (considered a NICE part of town), a 2 bedroom apartment with garage is $2100-$2300 month, not $1200.
Yes, you can get a $1200/month apartment in SD. In the ghetto
Oh, and the san diego water temp high his 68 degrees, not 75ish

You do realize that the money for those stickers goes to the club associated with those sites, right? You seem to really have some strange hard on for Pat. Even if you don't like him you are letting that affect the club that you should be supporting. Keeping the flying sites open in the bay area has been constant work for decades.

Pat, many people have something to say about the guy, but probably don't want to cause any red tape to get on them. He can be a real wiener, and that's all i'm saying about that. You have a fat wallet, he likes you.Can -o worms. _________________ Always a student.

If you have a problem with a local club then TAKE IT to the local club website.
Why don't you just go to the WOR site and ask the question. Why don't we have a day use pass or some sort of visitors pass?
Again as someone who did membership it is a PAIN IN THE <ASS>
It is no wonder we lose so many volunteers.
Slingblade - Being a California native I would not know what to tell you as where to go SoCal or NorCal. OOH the decision!!!
Would I move to SoCal? No way in hell. Would someone in SoCal move to NorCal they will probably say the same thing.
Good luck!!
