Hello all. I am planing to take HG lessons some time soon. I've been reading all i can about the sport / lifestyle.. problem is i cant find any list's of US HG mfg's or dealers..
i am aware that there are good deals to be had buying used, but i'd still like to see wants out there and read what the mfg's have to say about there products first..
So... in short, im hoping some of u exp pilots out there could point me to a few sites to look through.. And would like to get pointed to some good sites dealing in helmets harness chutes..ya know the odds and ends so to speak..
Also im planning to take lessons at Look out Mountain in Chattanooga Tn
And fyi i've used google and search function here to no avail..
any info would be helpful.. Thank you in advance |

Hey welcome to the fun man!
Do not worry too much about the equipment yet.. get your lessons and instruction first and you will get to know what to look for as you progress .
Here are links to everything about equipment and stuff for future reference: http://delta.start4all.com

Wow.. thanks for the quick responses .. im planning to get one of there package deals that gets me my hang2 before buying anything..
Still im a firm believer in the school of thought "fail to plan, plan to fail" but i hear what your saying.. not to rush and such.
I actually have flight exp.. although its in a light aircraft, Piper warrior II .. just got to be too expensive..
And ultralight training itsnt much cheaper. And lets face it Hang Gliding is as close to being able to fly like a bird there is. Cant believe i didnt think of it sooner
Thx again |

I was flying aeroplanes when I tried HG, and I never went back to the airport.
But unless you live really close to a frequently soarable site, as I do, you'll find your cost per hour really won't be much better than it is with aeroplanes.
But it won't matter, 'cause HG is worth it. |

A used Pacific Airwave can be a good first glider.

Welcome to the forum! I'm not sure if you are aware of this but Lookout is offering a $100 discount on their "learn to fly" packages. You just have to call and pay for whichever package you choose before Feb.15th. You can start training at any time after that. I believe you have up to 2 years to use it. So, if you know that you are going there to train it sounds like now would be a good time to get signed up while you can save yourself a little money. Personally, I wouldn't go with anything less than the Eagle package. That way, you will get some tow training as well which really helps you learn the approach pattern and makes your first high altitude solo much better.
Randy (Imaposer) and I trained there and are regulars there during the flying season. It is quite a social community and during the summer months there is always something going on. The atmosphere, flyable or not, is great! _________________

to the board and the sky.
Since you'll be flying out of Lookout, you'll be using the Wills Wing Falcon. If you're daydreaming about what glider you'll want after your mountain solo, I second Tom's recommedation of the wiki page. There are a couple of European gliders I need to add, but they are not ones you'll commonly see in the U. S..
As far as new gliders for new pilots go, the vast majority of new LMFP pilots I've seen either wind up with a Falcon or the North Wing Horizon. I think that the North Wing Freedom would make a great first glider as well. In the used ranks, most pilots get a Falcon or equivalent, which would include the North Wing Ezy and the Aeros Target, or a glider that has a 60 percent double surface area, such as the Airwave Mark IV or Pulse, Wills Wing Eagle, or Airborne Sting 2. |

Don't worry, we'll be back. We're going to take a break for at least this season. Give my knee some time to heal up, and then buy all new equipment when we return!

another one!
to the forum, featuring great people all too willing to share their vast pool of collective HG knowledge. As for me I'm a complete noob, but loving the limited amount of flying I've got so far. You seem like the kind who this sport is made for and someone who will love flying as much as the rest of us.
Cheers,
