When I try to post a reply, when I hit the submit button, it is taking a looooong time to respond. I find I can open a new window, check the front page and find the post has already entered while the message posting window continues to act as though the message has not been transmitted. This may explain the many double posts, as I, too have hit the submit button again out of frustration.

I noticed the double or triple posting myself as well as the longer submit times. I just wait for the message to post so haven't had any dupli-posts of my own as of yet. I wondered why others did though. Seems the dupli-posters are the impatient types? Mr. Green

Server is over loaded. Plan to do some tuning this weekend. May need to upgrade hardware soon.

I guess I'm one of the impatient ones.... Crying or Very sad

I saw I had three of the same submissions pending to go out - I deleted two of em before they were sent. The trouble with instant gratification is that sometimes it just takes too damn long.. Smile

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Skt939 Processor
1 Gig of ram
The server is IO bound, need more hard drives to split the load
CPU utilization is only in the 10%-25% range

Or more RAM? There shouldn't be TOO much disk access, unless there's lots of page faults, right?

Memory usage is low, most of it is being used as cache, cpu is low too, its just pumping tons of data out. The hard drive hits 100% utilization at times. Its maxed out.

I cant squeeze much more juice out of this hardware. Need more hard drives!

No RAID, too expensive, just a max'd out SATA drive.
Ive already identified the problem in detail.
I think I can squeeze a bit more out of the box and then im going to move everything to a faster box with 2 drives so I can split the database and the content across disks.
Ive got a 96% cache hit rate in the DB, but its still getting killed because of the static content causing the disk to be saturated.
Anyway..... thats enough of that, you guys are gonna have to wait a bit until I upgrade.

Until then... STOP HITTING REFRESH and causing double/triple posts Laughing

Ok guys..
If 50 of us chip in 10 bucks each, we could get a nice RAID 5 setup with a dedicated card and 3 new hard drives.
Something like this:
1 X http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816131003
3 X http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148288

Who's in?

SG. would you do the setup?

I sent SG $100 a couple of weeks ago. Taking him too darn long to set up a contribution button...

And yeah, Axo, you are right, we need to help. thumbsup

I rent a dedicated server, I dont have access to the hardware.
Im working on adding a stat cache to help with the IO problems.
But the longer term solution is upgrading to a box with more IO capabilities, and fortunately, the price stays the same since hardware costs have come down since I rented this box.
Just tuned some TCP packet size and memory stuff too.
Really need the stat cache though. Working on it...

All you non-geeks confused yet? Laughing

Maybe you need to add RAM for the OS file system cache instead, or modify the existing apportionment.

I once set a ram free! Found a cache of my old mans porn. While eating KCF with packets of clean wipes. Had to use a can of RAID on the ants that came after the chicken.
