Interesting stunt. What's with the jumping up and down before launching? Laughing

Maybe he was trying to shake as much water off the sail as possible before he launched?

Just watched the alternate view. That showed some serious skill. The goal post was barely wider than the glider mosh

Yeah, that makes sense. Also, I noticed the guy doesn't touch the ground either. thumbsup

There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. … Clearly, it is this second part, the missing, which presents the difficulties. ~~~Douglas Adams

I just figured that was his way of doing a final check to ensure that he was properly hooked in, making certain that he could feel the leg loops pulled up by the glider.

I like the bit of commentary that says (I think), "flying through the soccer goal without breaking it".

I watched again. I dont think thats what he is trying to do, he jumps up and down with the glider, and doesnt make his hang strap get tight so he could feel his leg loops.

No, he was definitely trying to shake rain off his wing. Note the people running around with things covering their heads, plus the sound of rain. I'm surprised he even did such a stunt in the rain. But then again maybe the rain was factored into the plan. Confused

Could be wrong but I don't think that was very dangerous.
The "soccer goal" looks like nothing more than stacked pieces of foam or something.
The "crossbar" is even sagging.
However, that was definitely some awesome control. thumbsup

I hate to be the first one to say it. Davis could not pull that launch off. Until he learns how to control his pitch on launch. I wouldn't let him even attempt that launch. He's better off jumping into shallow swimming pools.

Guy doesn't even have wheels on the bar, he.risks a nose in!..
I'm impressed.

Don't show this to USHPA.. they'll make "gliding through uprights" a new H4 requirement.

Too late, mon. Already sent the memo to Safety and Training, and I hear that
Broyles has the draft of SOP 12-1 revised and circulating for approval.

We're gonna add the "water dance" as a special skill signoff.

<hearsay>

I've been told that the requirements for H4, H5 were significantly relaxed a decade or so ago. I never saw the old requirements though.

I know this guy,I took lessons from him a looong time ago,he was the first instructor in Spain as far
as I know (from the early 70´s)and is still running his school...
I agree that the circus stuff is tasteless but dont get confused, this man is a
master,if to land is an art,he is an artist,he can land any glider almost anywhere! the vid is quite old. J.
