| One point I forgot to mention about the Ebay wheels is that you can stop them rotating by pushing in a jamming device. This is really handy when ground handling particularly when its windy or when you are standing on a ramp. I don't know if you can do this on other types of wheel. |
The wheels I have do not come that way, but adding a pin thru the wheel, into the hub would be a simple fix for that. then pull the pin while in flight to allow them to rotate, should you need them, on landing.

There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. … Clearly, it is this second part, the missing, which presents the difficulties. ~~~Douglas Adams |

| just to note, when I got my wheels from the ebay seller, they did NOT have the braking mechanism. I had assumed they did and did not ask him to verify this. I would much prefer wheels with this feature for launch.

A question for Nibs- are the wheels that you have seen breaking up the ones modified by Ravensports or are you talking about the standard Plastiqual wheel which is pretty popular in the UK? Is your point that the Ebay wheels are particularly weak because they have been modified or are you saying all Plastiqual wheels have a problem? |
The ones I have seen break were both on Stings which have the standard round base bar so the wheels and hubs have not been modified. There just isn't much to those wheels and what happens is that the wheel falls off the hub. There is almost NO lateral strength so if you hit the ground at a slight slide, or hit a bump, the wheels just slide right off the hub. So I guess I'm saying the Plastiqual wheels are weak overall, modified or not. The hub is strong and sturdy, the wheels just don't stay on them.

A dremel with a all purpose bit (the kind that looks like a drill bit and can wood/plastic/metal/etc). Don't take too much off! Lookout has done it enough that they are pretty good at it. No idea what they charge though.

Those look nice but seem to be made for only two different gliders' base tubes.

| Just going back to the Ravensports (Ebay) wheels, I think when I got mine I had to drill into the white plastic hub to make the jamming system work. They didn't come ready to go , or rather, stop.

As long as we are talking about wheels, I currently have the large plastic training wheels on my Falcon. At some point later in the year, I'm probably want to trade to something a little more svelte. Lookout has these 7 inch pneumatic wheels: http://www.hanglide.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LME&Product_Code=2-18&Category_Code=W
Assuming I get to the point where I'm usually landing on my feet, would these be appropriate, or should I be looking for something bigger?

Pneumatic wheels ROCK! I had them on my Horizon and they are the next best thing to the giant training wheels. They saved me a number of times when I was still learning how to land. Only down side is that the hub won't work with VG, but you don't have VG on a Falcon so there isn't a down side. I ultimately swapped out my pnuematics for the hard plastic wheels like CHassen has. They aren't as good but are a close second and allowed the VG to work for me.

| Imaposer...I went to your LM link and evidently they have the nice bolt on wheels for round and for "faired basetube." These are the ones I use on the Discus and they work well. I'll give em a call tomorrow to see if they fit the WW airfoil base tube.

These? I've seen a few people roll in on them no problem. Can't really vouch for anything particular personally though:

WW makes (or did) a different corner bracket that allows you to mount the wheels outside of the control frame on a Falcon 2. I like being able to put my hands anywhere I want on the control bar.

These have been around for a long time. I've used them and they work nicely. A bit on the heavy side, at least the ones I had.
