Anyone out there from Hill Impaired Long Island? I stumbled across the LI Paragliding Club, but I think Hang gliding interests me more. Looks like they are at Rocky Point, NY. Don't even know if that site is Hang glidable (if thats a word). Any training hills or instructors? Ellenville is not terribly far but just curious if there are any locals.
Thanks
Matt

There are plenty of HG pilots from NY on this forum. Off the top of my head I know about Ellenville and Cooperstown and great places to learn.

There are a number of HG pilots who live out on Long Island. When I lived in North NJ I even flew there a couple times on the North shore (don't remember the exact spot as it was way back in about 1990). Southern NY HG pilots Association could be a source of info for LI pilots as nearly all are also Ellenville pilots.

Here is the Yahoo group for SNYHGPA: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/snyhgpa-web/

Join up and inquire about pilots from Long Island. You should hear from a few.

I'm afraid that most available training will be in the Ellenville area. Here's who I recommend:

Mr. Voight is interested in making good pilots and dealing in a fair and respectful way with new folks.

BTW - HGing is the way to go. thumbsup

I think Harry Sudwischer lives in Copiague, or Bohemia, LI. And if anyone flies an HG out there he does. He's the pilot who got a group of us out to LI to fly that time back in ~ 1990.

So, blueflyer, are you looking for an experienced pilot to talk to, or an instructor? Harry doesn't teach hang gliding, but he's been doing it for over 30 years.

It would be best to ask this question on the SNYHGPA list (link provided in post #3 of this thread). Are you a member of that club yet? I would expect there to be a few LI residents to be members.
