#1 |
Hello and thanks for looking at my question.
I have never been on an hang glider, but I recently wanted to try and pick up this hobby. I live in Truckee Ca and want a place to learn the basics from. I was wondering if anyone here new of a place close to me where people go hang gliding often?
thanks! |

There is awesome hang gliding around the lake tahoe area. I used to drive from San Francisco all the way to Mt Rose ski resort on the weekends, to launch off the back side. "Slide mountain" is the name of the site. There is incredible hang gliding in the mountains near there! Ive got some video laying around, ill try to post some clips. _________________

yes, please do!! I was just in the Tahoe area yesterday and had heard about the flying at Slide Mtn. No one was flying, but it looked awesome. In addition to this I believe my former instructor is doing some platform towing off his boat on Lk. Tahoe. I don't know what the name of his company is, but you might try to google "Wasatch Wings"
...and yes, I do get around a lot. Unfortunately, flying is not the reason!! |

Samfromhere,
I'm taking some lessons I believe this weekend from a guy named George Hamilton in Sacramento. He's been around for a long time and has taught many people how to hang glide. His website is www.sachanggliding.com. PM me know if you want to take some lessons with me. Maybe we can get a discount...

| I talked to George today and he said he would take $20 off each of our lessons if I could get another person to come. We meet at 1pm on Saturday and start with the hill stuff and then on Sunday if the weather is good we will do some ground skims with the tow and maybe even a low altitude tow. I'll probably come down from Redding on Saturday morning. Send me your email and I'll foward the email from George to you with all the prices, maps, pics, and general info. Or PM your phone number and I'll give you a call. Let me know if you want to go. |

Derek,
Have fun learning... My 2¢ is hit it hard and stick with it weekly until you get settled in. |
