Total cost to get a new F2 in US is approx. $5,100.
Similarly equipped Falcon 4 195 total cost would be just under $4,000.
NOTE: These numbers were based on ACTUAL DEALER QUOTES.. with all shipping, insurance, taxes, fees, etc... not just figures pulled from websites..
The market is dynamic .. things are bound to change.. no tellin' which way or when. |
So in summary; despite being halfway across the globe, and despite having a currency that is currently weaker than the Australian dollar, it is actually cheaper to buy an Airborne glider in the US, than it is here in Australia.........

That's surprising there would only be a 100 to 200 dollar difference for both imported gliders to SA. Here in Oz you'ld expect the local Fun would be substantially cheaper than the imported Falcon but they are both the same price, around $5200. If it costs over $1200 to send a Falcon over here does that mean a Fun would cost $6400 in the US, and why do I feel we're getting ripped off here |
Well, the dealers here buy everything in bulk. When they make an order with WW they order a number of parts, hanggliders, accessories etc and with Airborne the dealer also orders parts for trikes and buys trikes etc All I know is that they get good deals when they buy a lot of stuff at once..

I know a few McClure pilots will be off-loading their Combats for the improved performance of the Falcon 4!

Ok this thread has been here a while…so I got to ask. NorthWing Freedom compared to Falcon-4. Anyone flew both of them yet so they could give a side by side comparison??? If so I sure would like to hear about it.

Wouldn't be the first time this is the case. Back in the 80's it was cheaper for Japanese to fly to the USA to buy video cameras made in Japan than to stay there and buy them there. The difference was so great as I heard as to pay for the trip.

The exchange rate didn't effect the prices, when it went from .65:1 to 1:1 the price of a Falcon3 in Oz still went up, work that one out? Those prices of $5200 were both for custom colours of F3s they had in stock (2 of). Now are these still custom sails or now stock colours ?
Anyway, wanted a Falcon for the short pack option and Glen's one popped up at just the right time and loving it. Be nice to know how a late F3 and F4 short pack compares

Just told my local WW dealer to place the order for my Falcon-4
The last I heard it was 14-16 weeks delivery time

I think you got it - looks more like the SC than Alaska flag - missing a few stars/islands (or can't see them) if it is Alaska flag. Nice looking sail though - hope all that blue doesn't fade quickly.

Nice looking. What size is this? Seems like the twist might be a little lower than the 3, or somethings tighter, any thoughts by you who have seen them on the 4's differences?
Nice Wills quality, but don't quite know why the wrinkles on the top left of the black on the glider bottom picture?...thought the computer cutter would prevent that, especially on a new one? Any ideas?

It's either a 170 or 145. Can't tell if it has the short pack option or not.

The tip panel looks amazingly tight and wrinkle free. Wonder if they don't double the material in this area? I believe the colored cloth is usually just 4.0 oz. material, yet it looks even tighter than the rest of the main sail. Perhaps it is just the twist, etc.
Any ideas on this from folks who are familiar with their own sails?

Looks like they almost went glass tips then chickened out.
Can I pay extra to get one that drags the tips on the ground.
OK sarcacism switch off
A lot more noticeable differences than the 1-3 versions
I like

It's a 145, and yes, those wrinkles are from the original packing, the pictures were taken immediately after it was setup for the firs time. I know she got her instructor to test fly it yesterday and she got her first flight on it today.
She'll be joining this forum soon so she will be able to tell you guys more.

It appears that the tip rib hooks into the washout tube - is that true?
