Im committed to Dunlap for the weekend.

And I don't care what the temp on the ground is. Where I plan on going...I still need to wear my 4 thermal tops! thumbsup

I was at dunlap last weekend. Flying was alright saturday, and pretty good sunday. Something you might want to note (as the OP suggests) is that there was a thermal 'guarding' the LZ both days -- it was particularly bad saturday; there was basically a thermal going off in the middle of the lz constantly (at the red/pink spot), so if you were landing toward that spot it was always downwind. Landing past it was fine, though.

I like my wheels Wink had a good roll-in on them when I was first to land, nobody was in the LZ to radio up wind conditions, and as I came into ground effect in the standard landing pattern I looked over at a streamer and saw I was in something like a 8mph downwind ROFL

Oh, also, first post. Just wanted to communicate the flying conditions from last weekend ;) some really good thermals over last chance on sunday!

I think some of my flying compatriots might be heading toward sweetwater sunday. That is yet to be seen. The forecast for dunlap LZ last weekend was 90/95 but it felt great in the air, and up at launch was great as well (nice, mild 70s, beautiful). As long as you arent laying around in the LZ at 3 pm it isn't so bad.

-Michael L

edit: the forecast at launch is around 80 to 85 in the afternoon, so obviously you wont be sweating at 100F if you are up in the air. That said, I can't post a link as I have too few posts owned sunday also looks nominally better than sat in terms of wind direction but I haven't looked at top of lift or anything like that.

Screech,

Welcome to the board dude! Thx for the update on the Dunlap rowdiness thumbsup

That LZ in the middle of summer is Nuts! You can sit in the LZ and watch the air heat up so much, that the air is buzzing 8ft thick. Then it will clear out in a huge thermal, lifting up the training hill to last chance. Landing there when that happens... well...HaHahahehehehe! Get your camera ready. Its YouTube time!!! I'd like to echo Mike L's synopsis. Landing on Saturday afternoon was a bad idea (though the evening was good). Coming in to land, I always have lots of speed. I felt my sidewires twang twice as I was diving in. Once I entered ground effect, I experienced that 8mph tailwind Mike mentioned, and I felt like Han Solo going into hyperspace. I got popped up by the thermal, before entering the other side where speeds were more reasonable. Flared hard while wings were slightly unlevel, came down on a corner bracket. Funny thing is...I dove down in to land because the last thermal had just ended. Apparently, I timed it so I started my final as the next thermal started!

Sunday, on the other hand, was the mellowest landing conditions I'd ever seen at Dunlap. Nary a bump on final and I was able to put the glider down exactly where I wanted. I guess it's luck of the draw?? Or maybe the north cross on Saturday made landing conditions extra hard?

Anthony
