Hi all! My husband has always wanted to try hang gliding. I would love to give him a gift certificate to try it out. We live in Columbia, SC. I have been searching the internet for places to go and have come across several places in NC. Any suggestions on where to go and what I should look for when setting this up for him.

Thanks!

Lookout Mountain Flight Park in N Georgia has it all:

Lots of facilities
Lots of instructors
Training Hills
Mountain Launch
Aerotow
Cabins/camping

Took my training there. Great people, beautiful surroundings.
Chattanooga is a great place to hang out if the weather is not cooperating.

Good Luck. What a thoughtful wife! (I've got one also.)

cladsmom,

Beware of third-party scam artists who will offer to sign you up for "adventures" in any city you can name, for any sport you might like. Decent HG flying is not going to be available just anywhere. Flight parks like Lookout Mountain, GA and Wallaby Ranch, FL may have various offers for the new pilot, but deal with these businesses directly, not through any middlemen. These good places will have their own business web sites. Contact them directly, and verify any offers that you find. I don't fly in that area, but many pilots here can tell you about the best deals near you. Hang out here for a while, and get more information before you decide on a plan. If you find a "deal" that nobody here knows about already, then chances are, the "deal" is bogus.

Tell us about what you have found so far, and some local pilots there probably can pick the best options among them, for you.

Mr. Green

There are several places to get a tandem flight in for the experience and training. But if he wants continued training, then I suggest finding a location as close as possible to were you live.

There is an awesome instructor in SC and he wants to open a facility but I do not his equipment status. I sure he can give some guidance though. If you PM me your contact info, I will forward it to him via Facebook.

depends on what type of flight he would prefer: most places will have a small like 'plane' to pull up the hang glider..this is called towing..the 'mini plane' pulls your glider p to about 2,000 feet, lets you go and then you glide down..usually a short flight of about 8-12 minutes...but if he would rather jumpt off a mountain, and have the potential to soar for much more time, then contact clark harlow of http://www.hangglidetennessee.com/ ..disclaimer: i make no money for his endorsement, he's just a great pilot...so your husband can either be towed up from the ground or get to jump off a mtn to try a tandem flight...
