| I just got back from a 3 day hang gliding class in Dayton WY and had the time of my life. My instructor said that I have picked it up faster than anyone he has ever seen in the 30+ years he has been teaching. He suggested that I get my own glider now and start practicing with others in my area. I guess I am just not sure when I would be considered capable enough to fly off a mountain with friends. Is there a certain amount of hours one has to accumulate before getting "licenced?" |

I'm confused... you say your instructor suggest you get your own glider now but then you ask about getting your license? My question is how can an instructor tell you to get your own wing if your still needing your license?
Do you mean you have a certificate or some other piece of paper and not an actual HG License?
How much time do you actually have? Did you take any written test ?
Or was this just a weekend fling you decided to try before actually taking your lessons.
I don't get it. Again I don't know of any instructor to tell you to get your own glider and go fly with others if your not 100% certified and licensed through USHPA
Anyone want to clear this up or am I missing something here. Damn I haven't been away that long!... |

Yikes,
I'd recommend solid training followed by mentorship. |

I won't comment on the wisdom of going off and flying unsupervised with limited experience, but there is no "license" from USHPA required in order to go hang gliding. _________________ H4 + various skills (only foot-launch so far)
