Great day at Daniels Mountain near Stanardsville, VA! When us HGs got there it was light and we hoped for a ramp up like the forecast. Wind speed only marginally increased and we spent the afternoon watching PGs have varying results. Later on, sufficient thermals rolling through finally got the better of me and I launched at 4pm. I had to work for it, but I got up and later on there was buoyant lift out in the valley. I didn't get too high, but had a very rewarding flight with lots of good thermaling practice.
Someone counted 15 wings in the air at once! Here we go East Coast in 2012!
Some hard work, paid off. Very nice and yes, it looked like a beautiful day for all of you. _________________ H-4 (1976) UP Saturn 147 & UP Axis 13

Very nice job documenting your flight. With a lot of videos that have just one viewpoint, I often fast forward because I get bored with looking at the same thing.
Your video however was very interesting visually because you were pointing the camera at different things and keeping the edits moving.
Nice video! I am sorry I missed it. I decided to bail on going at the last minute, thinking it would be too crowded for marginal conditions. Looks like it paid off for all those that made the trip though. How long of a flight did you get?
You never know if you don't go I guess. _________________ Wills Wing U2 160

Does anyone know the rules/regulations and contacts to fly Daniels Mountain? I am an H4 and will be visiting the Charlottesville area on my way back north from Florida. Any information regarding flying there would be very helpful. Thx Much ..::JG
It's a SSW site. H2 w/ observer. The site can be pretty technical, and nasty with a West cross. Bad road up to launch. Definitely requires a vehicle with good clearance, 4x4 is a plus.
The site is sensitive and locally owned, so there are some protocols. Our site guide says you should be a member of the Capital Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association, the Central Virginia Hang Gliding Association, or accompanied by a member of either. I'd post on the www.chgpa.org/forums/ if it looks like a suitable day, as there are a fair number of active HG and PG pilots there.
My wife and I will be in the area from the April 25-30. We have other tasks to do during that time but if flying conditions look good for Daniels or Woodstock the priorities may shift to a flight or two. I have been aero-towing for the past four months so I was also thinking of a few flights at Taylor's Hill to get my legs running again. I e-mailed the CHGPA for info. and directions to Taylor's Hill so hopefully I'll hear from someone soon. Thank you for your suggestion to get on the CHGPA forum, I'll do that is well. ..::JG
