I have an idea for a monthly video subscription.

My wife is an avid horse lover and she gets a monthly horse video subsription. It is a DVD that has topics on training, horse health, nutrition, events... She really enjoys it and looks forward to getting it each month.

Why couldn't we do something like that for Hang Gliding? One or more of the instructors/video gurus on this site could get together and make a monthly hour long video that we could subscribe to. For someone who has the right equipment and software, it would be a fairly easy project.

The video could include topics on training, maintenance, meteorology, product reviews, flying sites, events and could include some good in flight footage sent in by the members. It would be kind of like a monthly video magazine for Hang Gliding. I'm sure many of the members on this site would be willing to pay a few bucks a months for a video they could look forward to every month.

It would also be great advertisment for the instructors/videographers doing it, and make them a few extra bucks.

Nathan

Sure they could review all the bright and shiny new HG gear that comes into the market...every 5 years or so if at all.
I would settle for some well made HG technique DvD's.

Parelli? Their video production facilities are quite impressive.

Parelli has a market that dwarfs ours. You only have about 5000 pilots in the USA and that's the worlds largest HG market. Colorado alone has far more equestrians than that.

I think that would be a great idea!! I just shot a segment for a documentary I'm doing called This Is Georgia on top of Lookout Mountain in Georgia. The video is on youtube type in Up There Chris Flippo and it should pull right up. Is this the type of video you guys would be going for? Thanks!

I'd suggest a paid website, simply because it would be easier and less of a hassle than sending out a CD that *could* get lost...

Also, a website offers EVERYONE instant gratification when it comes to new information/content!

You could easily setup a auto-responder and every time something 'new' is added, an email goes out to all members!

That being said...CONTENT IS KING!

That would depend on how you present that content...

Providing various content outlets, such as:

* Articles about
- Hang Gliding History
- Evolution of Hang Gliders
- Today's leading Hang Gliders
- Today's leading hang glider manufacturers
- Schools
- Instructors
- Etc., Etc.,

* Videos About:
- Hang Glider Reviews
- Hang Glider Harness Reviews
- Hang Glider Transporting
- Hang Glider Accessories, such as:
+ Harnesses
+ Helmets
+ Clothing for high-altitude/XC fligths
+ Etc., Etc.,
+ Helmets
+ 3rd Party products
+ Hang Glider Schools
+ Etc., Etc.,

Could give you enough content for quite some time...

And let's not forget the input from the very members who would be paying for said membership...listen to their wants/needs and find a way to give it to them and you might just be surprised at just how MUCH CONTENT you'd have at your finger-tips!

Bottom line though really comes down to giving hang glider enthusiasts something that makes them want to be a member for x-time frame and in return, information/tips/etc.,etc. that they REALLY WANT to pay for because they know they'll not find said information anywhere else...or spend the time trying to find it in the first place!

I don't think the effort would be worth it, anything you want to see is on youtube or elsewhere already.
