#1 |
Greetings all!
Wanted to let everyone on here know that I am a new Airborne hang glider dealer in the US.
I have flown Airborne wings now for the past 9 years and always been impressed with their design, build quality and performance. They have proven themselves to compete well against any other on the market, as demonstrated at this years pre-worlds.
http://www.forbesflatlands.com/results-show.html?id_results=14&db=results2012&class=results_open
I will have a shipment arriving towards the end of March and as a promotion, will be offering free consolidated shipping on all spare parts ordered by 3/16 within the continental US.
Airborne’s full line can be viewed here:
http://www.airborne.com.au/pages/home_n.php
If anyone has further questions regarding Airborne products, feel free to contact me directly.
Thanks,
Marty

Free shipping on spare parts, that's quite a promotion.
Seriously, Congratulations on the new venture. How about posting a price list for your gliders? I would have to assume that these gliders will be more expensive than their domestic counterparts. What are the selling points for Airborne gliders in the US?

Thanks Lostgriz,
The export prices listed on Airborne’s website will be a good general guideline for my price point as well. If anyone would like specific pricing on a glider or part, please contact me directly.
Though Airborne’s pricing is competitive with other manufacturers, there’s no doubt that the weak US dollar has proven to be a challenge for their current price points. As a result, Airborne has worked with me to help compensate for price discrepancies which has allowed me some leeway with the pricing listed.
I think the people at Airborne have done a good job at describing the stand out qualities their products posses but for me personally, it has come down to what I mentioned earlier, design, build quality, and performance. I have flown their Shark, Sting, C2, C4, and will soon fly the Rev. Even the smallest of details are given attention (i.e. internal padding for no wear pack down and beautifully in-house machined components). Other pilots I know have commented on how clean the sails look on these wings in flight. Even after more than a hundred hours, my current full mylar C4 is still crispy with zero high speed tip flap.
I have also flown other midrange and high performance gliders from Moyes and Wills Wing and can tell you that Airborne stacks up well against them. But I will not go so far as to say that there is noticeable performance advantage between any of these wings. They are all well built aircraft and I for one am happy to see us pilots have this many viable manufacturers to choose from.

Do you have any photos as example what Airborne does to go the extra miles with regards to the REV ?
Certainly would be nice to view some.
I use to fly a Shark 144 & was certain impressed with the quality of finish & protection on the wear points. It was a lovely glider to fly.

Hi Mrcc,
My Shark 144 is still one of my favorite wings. Some awesome flights/memories were made with that ship.
And other than the photos attached that are also on Airborne’s website, I don’t. But once my Rev arrives at the end of the month, I would be happy to take some additional photos for you.

Airborne is currently quoting an 8 week lead time on glider orders, which is pretty good considering it’s summer time in Australia and most everyone that works there fly's. My Rev order took 37 days for procurement.
I will have to inquire lead time for parts but I have never waited longer than three business days for shipments to leave the factory.
Actual shipment transit time will depend on your location.

Saw a few Revs on our 2010 AU trip and visited the Airborne factory.
Clean hardware and workmanship.
Very impressive indeed!

Funny you should ask Hangskier. I have a couple close friends in this area that are Moyes and Wills Wing dealers and have brought up that same idea. We are working on putting something together this spring out of our local tow park, which also has a foot launch site close by.
I will advise.

My Sting2XC's were wonderful gliders- great handling, generally robust. One problem spoken to in the above quote, though: the upper panel of the under surface developed component wear holes form bagging- typical of that glider. It's good to hear Airborn is attending to like issues...

The new Rev 13.5 has arrived. Here are some pics taken after assembly from short pack.
It truly has the cleanest sail cut (on a flex wing) I've ever seen.
I plan to fly it this weekend and will report.

Excellent news for our US brethren
I flew my new Sting3 for the first time last night — quite an improvement on the Sting2. Flies like a dream, I doubt I'll ever sell this glider.
