First flight with my new GoPro HD2. It was a scratchy day, luckily not much traffic.
I played with some slow motion and I must say the 50fps slowed down to 20% in editing then producing to 25fps produced some really super smooth slow motion video.
I am also impressed with the extra clarity of the HD2, can't wait till my next flight minus the waterproof lens cover. There were a couple of spots of haze from the lens.
Definitely a different view of Stanwell than my normal footage. I haven't done this much scratching for a couple of years.
That wing is still as pretty as the day you bought it. Thanks Robert. The new gopro 2 does take great video. I just got one not too long ago but have yet to fly with it. _________________ Freedom 170 FR

Thanks Rotor, with Stanwell when it is light and that direction all you have to do is get 20 feet below the hill and your done. That's why it is important to keep as high above the hill as you can. Even though 20 feet below the hill you are still at 540 feet the lift disappears.
Thanks Bob, yes I must say the colours are standing up very well. Your flying season is coming up so good luck with your HD2, our season has been a shocker. _________________ Sonic 165

Nice Robert!! That was really nice. I feel like I know Stanwell so much better now that I've seen it up close and in high def. Usually in your videos you get high and away almost instantly. Scratching flight for you = nice view for us
Very nice Robert! That slow mo feature is pretty cool.
At 00:40, I think I found my new house. Is it a house or a business? _________________ H-4 (1976) UP Saturn 147 & UP Axis 13

Glad you liked the closer view pj, very rare to get a light day that is not full of everyone scratching for space.
Thanks Windlord, yes the ability to slow it down and still retain full HD quality is pretty neat. The HD2 also has a native 120fps but at a much lower resolution.
Ah yes that house, I have often thought if I ever won the lottery _________________ Sonic 165

I'm curious if it has the same line-doubling artifact of the original. On the goPro HD--720p has the nice wide angle--but the effective resolution is about half of the actual number of lines rendered. _________________ H3 - Falcon3 195

I actually shoot a bit differently than most people. I shoot at 1280X920 to get widest possible field of view when I mount the camera close to me.
I then stretch the 4:3 aspect ratio video to 16:9 in editing because I really dislike having black bars on my videos. I then produce/render the video to 1920X1080. I know it sounds complicated but I have found this produces the best video for me.
The only line doubling artifacts I have found in editing is when using interlaced video, it's called a "combing effect".
A picture tells a thousand words.

I always shoot and produce/render in progressive format. Interlaced video is very old technology used to get by the low broadcast band width of analogue TV's. As all modern digital TV's and computer monitors are progressive, interlaced is no longer needed. It also is a bugger to work on as your computer has to work twice as hard to edit the alternating lines of video.
So to answer your question, with my HD2 I don't shoot 720, it is either 920/50fps(PAL) or 1080/25fps(PAL) if I mount out on the wing. _________________ Sonic 165

The artifact I'm referring to is not related to interlacing. It is probably the main reason you thought that 720p was not sufficiently high resolution when you chose the pipeline you ended up with. Given a similar data rate 720p should be nearly indistinguishable from 1080p. But in the case of the GoPro, there is a horribly insufficient amount of information in their r2 mode. Something to do with pixel binning. You and I also own the same Sanyo camera. Of course, it's a superior camera to the GoPro--but its 720p mode produces images of nearly twice the effective resolution as that of the Hero (1st gen).
I was just hoping that you might have tested the different modes on the new Hero as you did on your first one--as I can't find any appropriate test images online. _________________ H3 - Falcon3 195

A couple of things I chose 920 solely on the wider view not for better quality.
Ah my Sanyo video camera, great quality, great little camera, just wish it had a 170 degree wide angle lens. It was recording 720 at 17,000mbps compared to the GoPro HD's at around 9,600-10,000mbps.
My HD2 records 960 at 15,500mbps. Although the higher bitrate is due to the higher resolution more than higher quality.
I suppose until they can include a processor that can handle 25,000mbps (Blu-ray quality) we are stuck with what we have. Having said that here is one of my first videos so I am over the moon with the quality of any of the GoPro's
Ah yes how our expectations have changed. This was only 7 years ago and was considered normal from a little point and shoot still camera. You couldn't get away with now even from a mobile phone. _________________ Sonic 165
