I spoofed Tom when he first posted a few frame stills long before the edit.

it still blows me away how far these things will go in ground effect. These guys did this the smart way,the boat in the water makes this maneuver safe.I love watching this kind of flying.

I hardly think a little rowboat makes this safe.....at that speed he would be significantly injured if his basetube contacted and depending on where he hit it would take minutes for the guy to get to him

No doubt! A visual reference, and LOTS of working up to it it, before hand
seems to be the way!
But what do I know? Hope he is continuing to make improvements!!!
That said he's still AWESOME pilot in my estimation!

I believe the biggest difference is - He came straight on and he did not enter into the swooop in a slipping turn.
Amazing glide.
Smarter to have a boat near by than not. Even though it is probably a false security blanket. I would rather see it than not.
Love to watch but I will keep it to the ones that like to do that kind of stuff.

| just from where the boat was positioned in the lake i believe it was there more for safe measures in case he could not complete the full swoop. not for safety measures if he impacted at high speeds at the other side of the water. in which case the boat would be very helpful and probably very close to where he would be.

I am a little off topic here, but the posted video showed the flapping vg line so noticably. I have read that competition pilots do all manner of things to reduce drag including using smal (debatedly dangerous) side wires to get that extra edge on drag reduction. Do any of thos pilots do anything about the drag caused by the flopping vg line when on vg full? I have always wondered.

Cool.....but.... you would think that if there was any ground effect ,that mirror flat lake would have shown something.
Where he dove on to the lake there was some disturbance ....but after not even the slightest ..what the hell there should have been something

| Dude, now u need a wake boarder pulling an inverted indie grab with 720 twist just below you, a nitro circus suzuki back flipping over the both of you, with exploding bonfire on the floating pontoon, all in the same shot naturally and voila: 2012 X-games new dicipline. Just add checkered flags and sponsor banners to get the full picture.
