I was very proud to work for Wings over Wasatch, and still like to think of myself as part of the WoW team.
Ryan is a great ambassador to the sport, and really a top notch guy.
His compensation for his instructors is top notch too.
With the "Point" as a training hill, all the many other flying opportunities Utah has to offer, and the population of Salt Lake, you can do quite well.

I would still be instructing full time, except a "Day Job" I just could not pass on, that occupies all of my time, fell into my lap. thumbsup

Lock a diver in an empty room for an hour with three ball bearings. On your return, one will be lost, one will be broken and one will be stolen.

Don't mess with Cal Noman......... In case you don't read the mag, he is becoming an icon in this sport. He has been in 100% of the last two publications.

I would advise against making waves with Cal. If you piss him off and he quits contributing to this forum we will all suffer. punch

Cal for President! good idea

I did not mean anything negative on Ryan. What I should have said it is sad that with all that is required to run a hang gliding school, it should pay 100 plus grand a year. Most people do it because they love hang gliding and get payed next to nothing. But I hope thing are changing!

I guess I'd might as well make this public, since several people have asked...

Pay is dependent on qualifications and experience. Also, the lesson pricing is open for discussion if the new manager wants to structure things differently… But here's how I set things up for the previous manager (who is HIGHLY qualified, so keep that in mind)

Intro (first-time) lesson $150. Instructor gets $100 of that.
Continuing lessons are $25/hr. Instructor gets $20/hr of that.

Remember this is per-student. I feel pretty strongly about keeping class size no more than 4 students/instructor, but even at that ratio 4 newbies means the instructor walks away with $400 for a 1/2 day's worth of work!

I'm pretty confident there are very few HG instructors getting compensated like that! I'm looking for a true professional, and happy to pay them as such…

I only got $50 flat per student per lesson when I taught @ POTM Shocked
(That was good compared to what some schools pay)

But then again it was not my full time job either.....
(and it used to be a lot easier and cheaper to maintain an instructor rating)

Your pay plan seems really good, and I would expect that you will have no problem finding the caliber of instructor you are looking for. thumbsup
